Job description:

Purpose:

To lead and supervise the draughting team in the production, review, and control of technical drawings for mechanical, structural, civil, and piping systems across the mine site. The Draughting Supervisor ensures all drawings meet quality standards, project timelines, and regulatory compliance while providing technical guidance to junior draughtsmen and supporting multi-disciplinary engineering teams.

Key Responsibilities

Supervise, assign, and monitor tasks for draughtsmen involved in design, modification, and as-built drawing development.Review technical drawings to ensure accuracy, compliance with project specifications, and engineering standards.Coordinate drawing deliverables with project engineers, planners, and maintenance teams.Oversee and manage the drawing control system, including version control, archiving, and distribution.Interpret and verify design sketches, site measurements, and redline markups for accuracy and feasibility.Participate in project planning meetings and provide updates on drawing status and workload allocation.Maintain standard templates, symbols, and line types in line with drafting standards (e.g., ISO, SANS, BS).Conduct quality assurance checks on drawings before submission or construction.Coordinate drawing needs for shutdowns, new installations, and infrastructure upgrades.Provide on-the-job training, mentoring, and technical support to draughting team members.Facilitate the implementation of digital drafting practices, 3D modeling, and CAD file management.Ensure timely updating of plant “as-built” drawings following any modifications.Liaise with external contractors and vendors for drawing reviews and approvals where required.Enforce compliance with site safety protocols during field verification or measurement activities.

 

Qualifications

Full Grade 12 CertificateMinimum 5–7 years’ experience in Engineering Draughting, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.Hands-on experience in mining, construction, or plant design projects.Proven ability to lead a Draughting team and manage multiple drawing packages simultaneously.Experience working with multidisciplinary engineering teams and contractors

Experience

Excellent knowledge of drafting standards and technical drawing best practicesStrong leadership and task delegation capabilities.Advanced proficiency in CAD software and document control systemsAbility to interpret complex engineering schematics and site plansEffective communication and interpersonal skillsProblem-solving, quality control, and attention to detail
