The New Porgera Limited now has a vacancy for a qualified and experienced individual as Supervisor – Carpentry – Maintenance Site Services.
About the role
Reporting to the Foreman - Infrastructure Services, responsible for overseeing and coordinating all carpentry activities and projects within Site Services. This includes managing carpentry crews, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and to high-quality standards, and adhering to maintenance schedules and budgets. The supervisor will interpret weekly plans, project plans, assign tasks, monitor progress, and provide guidance and training to carpenters.
In this role, you will:
Lead, motivate, and manage a team of carpenters, ensuring high productivity and quality of work. Assign tasks to individual carpenters or teams, ensuring efficient use of time and resources. Conduct regular toolbox talks and safety meetings to promote a safe work environment. Provide guidance, mentorship, and on-the-job training to low performing carpenters. Resolve conflicts and address performance issues within the carpentry team. Coordinate daily carpentry activities as per weekly maintenance schedules Scope job requests and provide feedback to Site Services planners Monitor work progress, identify potential delays, and implement corrective actions. Ensure work is completed according to specifications, quality standards, and building codes. Assist in developing and adhering to weekly schedules and budgets for carpentry work. Inspect completed carpentry work to ensure it meets quality standards and specifications. Implement and enforce all company safety policies and procedures on site. Identify and mitigate potential hazards, ensuring a safe working environment for all crew members. Ensure proper use and maintenance of carpentry tools and equipment. Report any accidents, incidents, or near misses promptly. Estimate material requirements for carpentry tasks and coordinate material orders with planning and procurement team. Ensure proper storage and handling of carpentry materials to prevent waste and damage. Maintain accurate records of daily progress, material usage, and labor hours. Prepare and submit regular progress reports to the Foreman and Planners Notify Foreman and Planners of any changes, issues, or deviations from the original weekly plans. Identify and troubleshoot carpentry-related issues that arise during construction. Develop practical solutions to challenges, often in collaboration with other trades or supervisors.About You
To succeed in this role, the ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and experiences:
Diploma Certificate in a related field. Apprenticeship or Tradesman in carpentry preferred. Minimum of 5-7 years of progressive experience in carpentry, with at least 2-3 years in a supervisory or lead role. Expertise in various carpentry techniques, including framing, trim work, cabinetry, roofing, and flooring. Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints, schematics, and construction drawings. Strong knowledge of building codes, safety regulations, and construction best practices. Proficiency with carpentry tools and equipment (power tools, hand tools, measuring devices). Computer literate and should be able to use MS Word, Outlook, Excel and SAP Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving abilities. Strong organizational and time management skills. This position is open to PNG Citizens Only Rotation of 21 days on and 14 days off Must successfully pass a pre-employment medical including drug and alcohol screening. (This will be arranged only for successful candidates who progress after the interview stage).
