Supervisor, Power Controls Expert

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Power Controls Technical Expert to serve as a technical expert for the control strategies and software management of the vehicle's electrical power system (PowerNet). This role involves leading defining system requirements, ensuring quality and reliability, and driving technical solutions and core controls development for PowerNet 1+ architecture, and future architectures across ICE, FHEV, PHEV and EV vehicle variants. The expert will be responsible for complex problem-solving, influencing system design, and mentoring engineering talent.

1. Education:

Required: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Control Systems Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a closely related technical field. Preferred: Master's or Ph.D. in one of the above disciplines is highly desirable, demonstrating advanced theoretical knowledge and research capabilities relevant to complex power control systems.

2. Experience:

Extensive Industry Experience: 10+ years of progressive experience in automotive electrical power systems, power electronics, and control system development within the automotive industry. PowerNet Expertise: Proven, in-depth experience with vehicle electrical architectures, including voltage regulation, load management, and power distribution strategies. Multi-Variant Experience: Hands-on experience developing and integrating power control strategies across various vehicle powertrain types: Internal Combustion Engine (ICE), Full Hybrid Electric Vehicles (FHEV), Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEV), and Electric Vehicles (EV). Control Logic Development: Significant experience in the design, development, and calibration of control logic for automotive power supply systems. Requirements & Validation: Demonstrated expertise in defining, authoring, and managing system requirements (e.g., DVMs - Design Verification Methods) and leading validation activities, including in-vehicle and Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) testing. Quality & Problem Resolution: Extensive experience in leading root cause analysis, problem-solving, and resolution of complex quality issues, field failures, and warranty claims related to electrical power systems. Familiarity with methodologies like 8D is a plus. Functional Safety (FUSA): Practical experience with Functional Safety (ISO 26262) principles. Leadership & Mentorship: Proven track record of providing technical leadership, guidance, and mentorship to junior engineers, fostering technical growth within a team.

Power Controls & Strategy Leadership: Lead the global development, strategy definition, and sign-off for Power Controls within the vehicle's PowerNet (including PowerNet 1.0, PowerNet 2.0, and beyond) for ICE, FHEV, PHEV, and EV variants and for L3 support.  Primary focus on the vehicle level controls (load management, multiple powernet sources, etc) Provide technical guidance and leadership on power supply system architecture design from a calibration and control logic perspective, influencing both new architectures and existing programs. Assist in defining the control logic design for new power supply calibrations, anticipating potential bugs and suggesting design improvements. System Development & Validation: Serve as the technical authority for Power Control system requirements and validation. Author, maintain, and update comprehensive power control system requirements and test methods (DVM - Design Verification Methods) for both in-vehicle and Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) validation. Lead the formal sign-off       process for critical power control system requirements, including fundamental parameters like voltage drop and setpoint voltage. Develop robust and comprehensive diagnostic strategies for power control systems, covering system-level interactions, component failures, and wiring-related issues. Drive continuous improvement in performance metrics like Key On Load (KOL) and After Run by refining system requirements and supporting Vehicle Evaluation & Verification (VEV), program impact assessments, and R/1000 (Repairs per Thousand) correlation analysis. Provide expert technical support for emissions and homologation testing processes and related software enhancements concerning power controls. Identify and generate Technical Value Management (TVM) ideas for cost reduction within the power control system (e.g., assessing the feasibility of current sensor deletion) and actively lead the execution of approved cost-saving initiatives. Quality, Reliability & Problem Resolution: Lead the investigation, root cause analysis, and resolution of significant system quality issues and recalls related to power supply systems and their controls. Lead the campaign prevention sign-off process for power supply elements, ensuring robust power control strategies with a strong focus on Functional Safety (FUSA) requirements and maintaining voltage quality to critical safety-related modules (e.g., EPAS, EBB). Develop and implement proactive robustness actions to prevent future quality campaigns and issues. Develop and maintain comprehensive Failure Mode Avoidance (FMA) documentation for power supply systems in ICE and FHEV vehicles. Interfacing with the functional safety teams for solutions to deliver ASIL rated PowerNet system. Generate innovative and intuitive technical solutions for complex, real-world challenges related to power controls, including those arising from component shortages (e.g., addressing the BMS situation on Super Duty) and difficult-to-diagnose field issues. Lead warranty issue investigations related to power control systems, designing test plans and providing expert guidance on interpreting test results to determine root causes. Documentation, Mentorship & Knowledge Sharing: Provide technical guidance, training, and mentorship to junior engineers, sharing extensive experience in power control systems. Update, create, and continuously improve existing engineering manuals and technical documentation for Power Supply Calibrations and related power control strategies. Act as a key resource for technical knowledge transfer within the organization.
