Summary
Supervisor, Advanced Practice Professionals – Pre-Anesthesia Testing Department (PAT)
Based in the PAT Department the APP Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the clinical and operational functions of the PAT department from an APP perspective. This role ensures that advanced practice providers (APPs) deliver high-quality, evidence-based preoperative assessments and that patients are medically optimized for surgery. The supervisor collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to enhance surgical readiness and reduce day-of-surgery cancellations.
In addition, this position serves as an APP, practicing medicine within the scope of authority and privileges granted by Moffitt Cancer Center (MCC). This position provides patient care under the auspices of Moffitt Medical Group, and serves as a member of the academic medical enterprise; advancing the institutional mission of contributing to the prevention and cure of cancer.
Position Highlights:
This position oversees Advanced Practice Professional (APP) recruitment, performance, orientation, training, daily workflow, time-off requests, metrics, and quality initiative (s). Ensures high-quality, evidence-based preoperative assessments and risk stratification for surgical patients. Collaborates with anesthesiologists, surgeons, and other departments to optimize patient readiness for surgery. Works within a defined scope of practice and under the authority of supervising physician(s) or by specific protocol(s).

Provide clinical leadership and oversight for APPs conducting preoperative assessments. Ensure adherence to standardized protocols for risk stratification and medical optimization. Collaborate with anesthesia, surgery, and primary care teams to resolve complex medical issues. Supervise daily APP workflows and ensure timely documentation and patient evaluations. Monitor surgical readiness metrics and coordinate with schedulers and nursing staff. Mentor and evaluate PAT APPs, supporting professional development and continuing education. Lead onboarding and ensure APPs are credentialed and practicing within scope. Track and report on key performance indicators such as cancellation rates and documentation compliance. Participate in quality improvement initiatives and ensure compliance with institutional and regulatory standards. Promote patient-centered care through education, empathy, and effective communication.
Credentials and Qualifications:
Active BLS Minimum of 3 years of clinical experience in internal/family medicine, preoperative care, anesthesia, or perioperative medicine preferred. Proficiency with the use of EHR systems and knowledge of the APP scope of practice guidelines as well as the medical staff bylaws, rules and regulations. Demonstrated leadership skills, such as leading projects and serving on committees. Licensure, certification, registration as an APRN or PA-C and able to practice in the State of Florida. Strong knowledge of preoperative assessment protocols and risk stratification tools preferred Excellent communication, organizational, and team collaboration skills.
