Newmont’s Merian operation in Suriname is an open pit gold mine approximately 66km south of the town Moengo and 30 km north of the Nassau Mountains near the French Guiana. Newmont owns a 75 percent interest in the limited partnership and Staatsolie Maatschappij Suriname N.V., Suriname’s state-owned oil company, owns the remaining 25 percent interest.

Your impact
Lead mine engineering to deliver safe, efficient, integrated plans aligned with production goals, strategy, and compliance.
As part of our team you will
Facilitate mine engineering activities, including optimization studies, reconciliation, fleet evaluations, and continuous improvement initiatives to support operational excellence.
Deliver and assess mine design parameters, scheduling, and production plans for pits, waste dumps, haul roads, drill and blast patterns, and associated infrastructure.
Coordinate the mine engineering team to develop, maintain, and oversee integrated mine engineering designs and plans across short, medium, and long-term horizons to enable safe, efficient, and cost-effective production.
Lead risk assessments and reviews of mine designs and schedules, ensuring identification, mitigation, and monitoring of operational, geotechnical, and environmental risks.
Ensure the technical quality and accuracy of engineering outputs through robust QA/QC processes and adherence to standards and best practices.
Provide technical leadership for evaluating, implementing, and integrating new technologies, software tools, and innovative approaches in mine engineering.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Geology, Geotechnical, Processing, Environmental, and Operations to ensure aligned, integrated planning and execution.
Lead and develop the Mine Engineering team, fostering a safe, inclusive, and high-performance culture through training, coaching, feedback, performance evaluation, and succession planning.
Plan scope-of-work documentation, manage budgets, and oversee consultants and contracts to ensure delivery aligned with safety, environmental, and operational goals.
Promote continuous improvement and business improvement practices to enhance mine engineering processes, productivity, and sustainability outcomes.
Where will you be located!
This position is located at Merian at the project sites. Merian is a remote site located in a warm, humid tropical rainforest environment
The Merian mine is located in North-eastern Suriname, approximately—98 kilometers southeast of the capital city of Paramaribo; 60 kilometers south of Moengo.
Accommodation is in a camp/village environment near the workplace
Suriname has a tropical climate with dry and two rainy seasons, with anticipated tropical rainfall of 1.5m to 2.5m of rain per year.
