Summer 2026 Transportation Coordinator Internship - Irving, TX

Purpose
As a Transportation Coordinator Intern, you’ll gain hands-on experience supporting Builders FirstSource’s Transportation and Supply Chain teams. You will learn how freight is managed from mills to BFS locations in a fast-paced corporate environment, while helping ensure products move efficiently and cost-effectively.

What You’ll Do

Assist with coordinating inbound and outbound freight with carriers, suppliers, and BFS facilities. Support rail activity by tracking shipments and helping resolve congestion issues. Help schedule carrier pick-ups and deliveries to BFS locations. Learn how freight planning and load tendering are managed to ensure efficiency. Assist in evaluating freight carriers and comparing shipping rates. Communicate shipment status updates to supply chain and field teams. Verify carrier compliance and insurance requirements. Contribute to troubleshooting delivery or pick-up issues. Gain exposure to transportation performance metrics (KPIs). Support additional transportation and logistics projects as assigned.

Who We’re Looking For

Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, Logistics, or a related field. Junior or senior standing preferred, with a GPA of 3.0 or higher. Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Detail-oriented and eager to learn in a fast-paced environment. Able to work effectively with diverse teams. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Excel) is a plus.

 

Work Environment

Office-based with occasional exposure to warehouse or shipping environments. Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. if needed.
