Job Title: Substation Project Engineer
Job Description

The role of Substation Project Engineer involves physical substation, protection, and control engineering for high voltage electric utility projects, ranging from 12 kV to 500 kV. Projects vary in size, complexity, and voltage class, from small distribution equipment upgrades to large transmission substation projects globally.

ResponsibilitiesPrepare scopes, schedules, and budgets, ensuring they are met.Understand physical substation design, including yard layouts, plans, sections, details, grounding, lightning protection, control building arrangements, interior and exterior raceways, auxiliary AC/DC power systems, and associated bills of material.Understand protection and control design, including panel arrangements, one lines/single lines, three lines, AC/DC schematics, equipment wiring, and relay panel wiring.Prepare calculations for studies and reports, such as grounding, lighting protection, and AC/DC load studies.Prepare equipment specifications for procurement and/or factory acceptance testing.Coordinate design activities with other departments, including Civil/Structural, Networks, Transmission Line, etc.Effectively communicate and coordinate project activities with managers, clients, and other stakeholders as needed.Work independently and direct, mentor, train, and supervise less-experienced EITs and Designers.Perform other duties as needed.Essential SkillsBachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Architectural Engineering with an Electrical emphasis.Professional Engineer (PE) certification.5+ years of experience in substation design.Specific experience with substation design tasks such as One Line Diagrams, General Arrangements, Sections, Grounding, Conduit Plans, Foundation Plans, Materials Lists, Relay and Control Systems, Control Schematics, and Wiring Diagrams.Additional Skills & QualificationsProficiency in computer skills, including AutoCAD, Microsoft Office, and electrical design software.Previous experience with an architectural/engineering or engineering consulting firm is desired.Commitment to being an active participant in an employee-owned culture.Work Environment

The work environment consists of being in the office three days a week, focusing on a variety of projects in the southwest regions such as CA, AZ, NM, NV, and UT. The role predominantly involves office-based design engineering work with minimal travel.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $50.48 - $62.50/hr.
