The position falls within the substation department of the organization. The designer will develop construction drawings for substations projects. They will supervise and mentor lower level designers.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
With scoping information and general guidance from Design Engineer, develop a substation design layoutIndependently develop 2-D drawings and 3-D models of electrical substation features and components, such as transformers, circuit breakers, etc. using MicroStationDevelop layout of parts and assemblies in 2-D and 3-DModify and/ or update existing models, assemblies, and layouts to reflect changes to the designWork with part naming and numbering conventions; and file naming and management protocolsCreate or modify physical drawings such as single line diagrams, station location plans, electrical assemblies, cable and conduit plans, cable schedules, grounding plans, duct bank designs and layouts, and other details and drawings that will provide sufficient detail and information to construct an electrical substation with minimal guidance of project lead engineerUse ProjectWise for project documentation to track all design modifications and new designsHandle complex projects without supervisionCoordinate with people from other departments who are involved in a design projectSupervise and mentor less experienced designersCheck and validate drawings for the project and the drawings of peers and subordinatesWill be considered a “Subject Matter Expert” for Substation DesignFunction as project lead on small, less complicated projects with little guidance from an engineerWork under supervision of engineersEducation and Experience Requirements
Six years of experience designing physical layouts, equipment layouts, plan views, elevation views, section views, and creating detailed bills of materialSix years of design experience using AutoCADExperience checking design packages preferred.Associate degree in applied science (AAS) in drafting and computer aided (CAD) design or in civil, electrical or mechanical engineering technology or equivalent experience and/or educationPay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $50.00/hr.
