Job Description
This role is positioned within the substation department, where you will develop construction drawings for substation projects and provide supervision and mentorship to lower-level designers.
ResponsibilitiesDevelop substation design layouts with scoping information and general guidance from the Design Engineer.Independently create 2-D drawings and 3-D models of electrical substation features and components using MicroStation.Design layouts of parts and assemblies in both 2-D and 3-D formats.Modify and update existing models, assemblies, and layouts to incorporate design changes.Work with part naming and numbering conventions, along with file naming and management protocols.Create or modify physical drawings, including single line diagrams, station location plans, electrical assemblies, cable and conduit plans, cable schedules, grounding plans, duct bank designs, and layouts, ensuring sufficient detail for construction.Utilize ProjectWise for project documentation to track all design modifications and new designs.Manage complex projects independently, coordinating with various departments involved in design projects.Supervise and mentor less experienced designers, validating drawings of peers and subordinates.Serve as a 'Subject Matter Expert' for Substation Design.Lead small, less complicated projects with minimal guidance from an engineer.Work under the supervision of engineers.Essential SkillsProficient in substation design, including physical layout, grounding, lightning protection, and one-line diagrams.Six years of experience designing physical layouts, equipment layouts, plan views, elevation views, section views, and creating detailed bills of material.Six years of experience using AutoCAD for design purposes.Ability to check design packages.Additional Skills & QualificationsAssociate degree in applied science (AAS) in drafting and computer-aided (CAD) design or in civil, electrical, or mechanical engineering technology, or equivalent experience and/or education.Work Environment
The work environment is a quiet engineering office setting with a business casual dress code. Teamwork is highly encouraged and frequently practiced.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $50.00/hr.
