Aspirus Wausau Hospital in Wausau, WI is seeking a SUBSTANCE USE INTERVENTION COORDINATOR (Registered Nurse or Social Worker) to join our TRAUMA PROGRAM team!

The Substance Use Intervention Coordinator is responsible for providing brief interventions and referral to treatment for patients who screen positive for alcohol and/or drug abuse or misuse (risky drinking and drug use behaviors). The Substance Use Intervention Coordinator works independently with minimal supervision to conduct motivational interviews, provide patients with education and resources, and support patients in setting goals and learning skills to make behavioral changes to improve their health and wellness. The Substance Use Intervention Coordinator maintains close contact with the patient’s healthcare team, including collaboration with Care Coordination on referrals to treatment as it pertains to discharge planning.

HOURS: Full Time 1.0 FTE, 80 Hours Biweekly

Experience/Qualifications

 Associate's in nursing (bachelor’s preferred) or bachelor’s in social work (master’s preferred) or bachelor’s degree in public health or Community Health Education (master’s preferred). Preferred At least one year of experience in providing SBIRT services including substance use assessment, conducting brief interventions, motivational interviewing, and treatment planning. Meets Wisconsin Department of Health Services requirements for providing SBIRT services or does so within 30 days of hire. Possesses an active Wisconsin RN nursing license or Possesses Wisconsin Certified Social Worker licensure. Annual accrual of CEUs/continuing education requirements per Education Council recommendation for the given year. Exhibits strong human relation skills for interacting with patients, patient's support persons, physicians, personnel, community agencies, and other resources. Displays analytical skills to assess patients' needs, provide evidence-based brief interventions, and provide effective patient education. Motivational interviewing skills. Knowledge of recovery-oriented, person-centered and strengths-based values, principles and modalities. Knowledge of available community services targeted toward sobriety and recovery. Ability to work independently and effectively collaborate with a team. Possesses planning and organizational skills and expert skills in prioritization. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Understands the nature of social diversity and oppression with respect to race, ethnicity, national origin, color, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, age, marital status, political belief, religion, immigration status, and mental or physical disability.
