Substance Abuse Counselor Intern
Are you passionate about providing opportunities for individuals to rebuild their lives? The Rescue Mission of Trenton is seeking a Counselor Intern for our Behavioral Health Unit. The Counselor Intern will work under supervision of the Director of Substance Abuse Counseling Services, and coordinate and provide counseling and supportive services to clients. Primary responsibilities include assessment and evaluation of resident needs and strengths, development and implementation of treatment plans, development and facilitation of education programs and group discussions and monitoring of resident progress.

Rescue Mission of Trenton was founded in 1915 and is a non-profit organization that helps rescue people from themselves and their situations. Our dedicated staff in the Shelter and our Behavioral Health Unit offer care, support and encouragement to all that reside here. We value dignity, communication and helping each of our clients reach their full potential. Residents are assisted by staff with treatment options, medical help, job placement, financial planning, education, counseling and mental health treatment. Our staff works diligently with the clients to get ID, an income and the things necessary to help them with transitioning to housing.
Pay: $24.45 - $26.78 plus a comprehensive benefit package.
Schedule: Monday - Friday, Hours TBD

Qualifications For Position
Education: Minimum High School Diploma, Bachelor’s or Master's degree from accredited college or university in psychology, social work or a related field preferred.
Counselor Intern Required Experience: Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in substance abuse treatment.
Certifications and Licenses:
Must be actively pursuing Certification (CADC) or licensure (LCADC) as Drug and Alcohol Counselor by the State of New Jersey, Division of Consumer Affairs, State Board of Marriage and Family Therapy Examiners, Alcohol and Drug Counselor Committee as outlined in the Employee Manual.
Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of interviewing methods and techniques, case management principles and methods, professional ethics standards, substance abuse assessment instruments, and crisis intervention techniques; clinical diagnostic methods and principles and various modalities of counseling, psychotherapy, and abnormal psychology; criminal justice system, child welfare system and mental health system; federal, state and local ordinances and policies regarding therapeutic issues. Attention to detail is required and must have a valid driver’s license.
