Norwalk Community School DistrictPosition: High School Study Hall ParaeducatorReports to: HS Assistant Principal, HS Building PrincipalPosition Purpose:- Acts as supervisor of students in a variety of settings including but not limited to cafeteria, study hall, assemblies, corridors, parking lot, and restrooms- Proctors assessments- Assists high school students with the completion of college-level courseworkEssential Job Functions- Build positiive relationships with students and staff- Assists with behavioral management to ensure a safe and orderly environment, and minimize disruptions- Monitor students in non-instructional areas, such as supervising the students before school, during lunch, bus duty, corridors, study hall, and other related non-instructional areas- Maintain study hall policies on attendance, food/drink, technology, behavior, passes and study environment - Maintain accurate attendance records; monitor student attendance, behavior, and movement (issue/receive passes)- Communicate with appropriate staff on attendance and behavior issues or concerns in a timely manner- Assist and cooperate with rotational coverage with other student supervisors- Assists students with special needs to maximize inclusion, learning, achievement if IEP objectives, etc- Follows all applicable safety rules, procedures and regulations governing the proper manner of assistance for all students, including those with disabilities or other special needsAdditional Duties:- Assist student services staff or building administration, as needed- Assist with office tasks including sorting / organizing educational materials as needed- Proctor assessments- Perform any other related duties as assignedNote: The above description is illustrative of tasks and responsibilities. It is not meant to be all inclusive of every task or responsibility.Equipment- Use standard office equipment, such as personal computers and copiersTravel Requirements- Travel between schools may be required for due to room availabilityKnowledge, Skills and Abilities- Ability to establish a supportive and compassionate relationship with students- Ability to maintain confidentiality of information regarding students, employees and others- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff and others contacted in the course of work- Effective communication skills- Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form- Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide, and perform arithmetic operations as needed to assist students- Ability to understand, apply and use personal computers and software applications (e.g., Word, Excel, email)- Ability to report work orally or in writing to supervisor as requiredPhysical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards- Works in standard office and school building environments- Ability to work outdoors during outdoor student activitiesQualifications Profile- Asoociate's Degree or Bachelor's Degree preferred; High School diploma or equivalent required- Prior experience working with adolescent students desirable
Physical RequirementsPhysical requirements vary by individual job assignment but requires a minimum of the following physical requirements: Walking, standing, bending, carrying, climbing, lifting minimum of 50 pounds, driving, pushing, pulling, reaching, sitting and stooping.

Terms of Employment178 day letter of assignment. Wage and work year to be established by the Board. Employment subject to provisions of board policy, state and federal law.
EvaluationPerformance will be evaluated annually by either the Assistant Principal or Building Principal, or in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of staff.
