Brooklyn Center Middle and High School is seeking applicants to join our student support team for the 2025-2026 school year, as aStudent Support Specialist, focusing on supporting an identified caseload through teaching skills and preventing suspension.BCCS is looking for applicants driven to uphold our Mission:To become a justice-center school community who fuels the unique genius of each student.

Position Summary: The Student Support Specialist must have a strengths-based and trauma-informed approach and philosophy when working with all people. The Student Support Specialist will work as part of a small team to provide mentoring and intervention services and support for an identified caseload of secondary students using a restorative approach and non-exclusionary discipline practices.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
+ Support our work in developing a community grounding in restorative justice and civic education
+ Design individual and small group interventions to help students stay connected and engaged in school
+ Provide individual and small group student support through Restorative Circles and programs to support restorative discipline
+ Collaborate with other specialists for positive behavior approaches and conflict resolution
+ Establish effective communication with staff, students, and families. Interact positively with students and promote school programs
+ Attend and advocate for students in meetings with students and families as needed
+ Use and model restorative language and restorative conversations
+ Teach assigned student behavior expectations and provide positive reinforcement and feedback.
+ Create accountability and internal motivation for the student to improve behavior.
+ Review behavioral goals, collaboratively set goals for the day, and provide encouragement.
+ Track students’ progress towards goals.
+ Communicate with and support the students’ teams by providing data on the student progress on their goals.
+ Organize goal setting forms, data and breaks for scholars.
+ Attend meetings and participate on committees as assigned.
+ Other duties as assigned.
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
+ Knowledge of best practices in building relationships with all staff, students, and stakeholders.
+ Ability to work daily, in-person with a diverse team and build positive relationships with staff, students and parents.
+ Ability to relate and communicate effectively with people of different cultural, ethnic, and socio-economic backgrounds
+ Demonstrated success working effectively in a diverse, collaborative team environment, with skills in promoting cultural inclusiveness
+ Ability to assist students by providing patience and understanding
+ General knowledge of school district operations, expectations, policies processes, and procedures
+ Knowledge of District Core Values and Mission
+ Knowledge of facilitating restorative practice interventions or other types of youth supports
+ Knowledge of positive behavior reinforcement techniques
+ Ability to maintain a professional, calm and authoritative manner when challenged by students.
+ Ability to be punctual and accountable for the responsibilities of the position
Essential knowledge and specialized subject knowledge required to perform the essential functions of the job:
+ General knowledge of school district operations, expectations, policies processes, and procedures;
+ General knowledge of the transportation of students;
+ Knowledge of District Core Values and Mission;
+ Knowledge of facilitating restorative practice interventions or other types of youth supports;
+ Knowledge of positive behavior reinforcement techniques.
Qualifications:Any combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge for successful performance would be qualifying. Typical qualifications would be equivalent to:
+ Associate’s degree or certification in restorative practices preferred; sufficient education to successfully perform the duties of the position.
+ Experience working with young people.
Compensation: $22.32- $27.04/ hr depending on experienceHours: 7.5 hours/ dayDuty Days:185 duty days with 4 additional days for professional developmentWhy Choose BCCS?
