Job Summary

The Departments of  Germanic Languages & Literatures and Slavic Languages & Literatures are seeking a friendly, proactive, can-do self starter to join the department's team of shared staff.  The position is responsible for graduate student services, overall management of the undergraduate curriculum and supervision of the undergraduate student services coordinator. We are looking for someone who shows initiative; the desire to identify opportunities for changes to processes, procedures and duties; and a willingness to assume additional responsibilities.

General Student Services:  Manage the undergraduate and graduate student programs for two academic units:  Germanic Languages & Literatures and Slavic Languages & Literatures. Analyze, develop projections and determine budgets for graduate funding and undergraduate student scholarships. Prepare reports related to curriculum and student matters. Provide back up support for the undergraduate student services coordinator.Curriculum:  Strategize and manage the overall curriculum (graduate and undergraduate) with the Associate Chair in German and Chair in Slavic.  Graduate Student Coordinate: Manage and coordinate the PhD programs for both units. Ensure regular and consistent communication with the DGS' and graduate students related to milestones/progress towards degree and GSI hiring. Advise prospective and current students regarding program requirements and Rackham, LSA and departmental policies and procedures. Serves as a student advocate and a key player for all major initiatives involving the graduate programs.Lecturer Teaching Coordination: Work with Language Coordinators and Associate Chair to determine and communicate lecturer course assignments, offer and layoff letters per the LEO contract.

Required Qualifications*Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.At least three years of prior work experience in student services administration or similar type of administration. Experience hiring and supervising staff with demonstrated ability to coach, mentor and assist staff reach their professional goals.Proven ability to work effectively and sensitively with a diverse group of students, faculty and staff.Proven excellence in verbal and written communication. Proven high level of organizational skills with acute attention to detail.Demonstrated high level of critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills.Demonstrated ability to plan strategically and operationalize new initiatives.Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and initiatives at once while also maintaining the team's level of service to faculty, students, and staff. High level of demonstrated proficiency utilizing the Google suite of products (Gmail, Sheets, Docs) and/or Microsoft Word and Excel.Ability to occasionally flex work hours in order to coordinate and attend evening and weekend events related to graduate students.Desired Qualifications*Master's degree in higher education, college student personnel, or another related discipline. Administrative experience in an academic department including experience with administrative support of instructional activities and/or curriculum management.Previous experience budgeting and analyzing financial information to make recommendations and decisions related to expenditures and allocation of financial resources.Experience in building a positive work community among faculty, staff, and students. Experience with Wolverine Access, specifically the student services administration module, Business Objects reporting tools, and FAIT disbursements.Knowledge and understanding of the College of Literature, Science & Arts (LSA) and U-M SPG, policies and proceduresKnowledge and understanding of Rackham School of Graduate Studies policies and procedures.Modes of Work

Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment.
