General Statement LIFE Scholars is a 3-year, fully inclusive, non-degree certificate program for students with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Students audit 1-4 classes each semester to gain knowledge in their chosen career path, engage in extra-curricular campus activities to develop social networks, and participate in campus and community internships to develop job skills and explore careers. The goal of the program is to prepare graduates to obtain meaningful, competitive employment and live full, independent lives. Duties and Responsibilities Individualized social engagement support for students enrolled in the LIFE Scholars Program: Conduct and document regular meetings with scholars to identify and refine social goals and action plans. Plan individualized activities or events, as appropriate, to meet student needs, including weekends Forge partnerships with campus organizations to deepen scholar engagement in clubs, sports, and other extracurricular activities and raise campus awareness


Campus Integration and Onboarding: Develop a comprehensive in-person onboarding process for scholars residing in campus dormitories, including roommate matching and liaise with housing staff Serve as a supplemental resource for MSU housing staff, offering insights and support as needed. Recruit, train, coordinate, and supervise peer partners to provide personalized social support to scholars.
Collaborative Engagement and Communication: Collaborate closely with the LIFE Scholars Director and fellow staff members to provide holistic support to all scholars. Maintain regular communication with relevant stakeholders, including students, parents, faculty, and community representatives. Celebrate and communicate student achievements and program milestones through various channels including social media, newsletters, and email updates. Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills Bachelor’s degree and related experience working with various populations, especially individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities OR an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience. Experience in identifying, coordinating and implementing social events with a positive, professional and outgoing demeanor. Strong problem-solving skills, flexibility, and proactive initiative in completing job duties efficiently and effectively. Demonstrated competency in utilizing computers and software, including word processing, spreadsheets, electronic calendars, and email. Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills Bachelor’s degree in special education or related field. Experience with developing programs tailored for underrepresented populations and actively creating inclusive communities. Flexibility to be able to provide support during 1-2 weekends each month. Represents the Dean’s Office and College of Education, Health and Human Development (EHHD) and MSU as a diligent and courteous ambassador.
