Position Information Position Information Position Availability: The New School for Social Research (NSSR) is seeking several Communications and Events student assistant specialists. The student assistants support NSSR with a robust portfolio of events and programming (virtual and onsite), as well as social media promotion and communications projects to raise the visibility of our academic programs, students, faculty, and alumni. The ideal candidates will have experience with event planning, social media, community engagement, and technical platforms. Student assistants are expected to work in a hybrid mode, both on campus and remotely. Some weeks may require additional campus presence. The student will be expected to support in person and online events throughout the semester including Orientation and Commencement. This position is open to both Federal Work Study and non-Federal Work Study students.

Responsibilities:
Events support: Track all stages of the planning process for events Coordinate with faculty, university administrators, and external partners on events Occasionally staff events and provide events support, including procurement of supplies and catering and room setup Communications support: Draft weekly newsletters Create written and visual content for academic blogs Manage social media accounts for academic programs Produce promotional materials as needed (flyers, web graphics, etc.) Assist with communications and marketing projects (e.g. alumni spotlights, faculty interviews, etc.) Manage mailing lists Technical Support Schedule Zoom meetings and provide basic technical support Create registration pages and manage email communications to attendees Contribute to post-event reports Edit Zoom event recordings and distribute videos via appropriate channels (eg Google Drive; YouTube, etc.) Video captioning and accuracy checking Assist with internal event promotion and coverage affiliated communications initiatives Assist with reporting and analysis as needed Attend regular student staff meetings
Work mode: Hybrid
Rate: $18-20/hr Minimum Qualifications: Ability to prioritize and multi-task in a fast-paced environment while staying flexible and organized. Current student with at least two semesters of study remaining of their studies. High level of professionalism. Able to work independently as well as collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students Proficient in shared online platforms such as Google Suite (Calendar, Docs, Sheets, etc.), and Zoom. A fast learner of creative software and collaboration workflows. Excellent writing skills. Demonstrated experience managing non-person social media accounts. Preferred Qualifications: Graduate student Event planning and community engagement experience Proficient in event registration and email campaign software Marketing and community engagement experience Proficient in Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, or Canva Proficient in Mailchimp or similar software Proficient in WordPress or similar software Demonstrated experience with a video-editing software (iMovie, Adobe Premier, etc.) Job Family: New School for Social Research Posting Date: 08/20/2025 Closing Date: Open Until Filled No Supplemental Questions
