Amazon Web Services (AWS) is seeking a Structural Engineer to become part of a Data Center Engineering team. This engineer will be located in any of the 3 offices listed with intent to support AMER projects as well as some global projects. As the Structural Engineer you will be responsible for the structural infrastructure strategy and continuous product innovation and development to support our rapidly expanding global data center footprint. Key job responsibilities - Work with the other design and engineering professionals on concepts, build, and retrofit projects. - Create, review and release data center Structural improvements and structural designs for the next gen data center design. - Provide relevant feedback into Basis of Design, prototype design, and template specifications for structural systems. - Serve as a technical advisor for AWS DC design projects including; review of foundation and structural systems, evaluating superstructure design options, performing seismic studies and assessing structural calculation assumptions. - Create, review and release architectural/civil/structural design RFPs. - Manage our external architectural/civil/structural design consultants. - Coordinate with internal and external MEP/C/S design engineers. - Lead initiatives aimed at improving cost, quality, schedule, and consistency. - Work on multiple data center build and capital improvement projects simultaneously. - Travel for site assessments, consultant selection activities, internal design meetings, construction review, interface with AHJs, design consultants, quantity surveyors, and building owners. - Anticipated travel not to exceed 40%. Basic Qualifications · Bachelor’s Degree in Structural Engineering or equivalent experience. 6+ years professional experience in commercial, warehouse, and/or industrial new design and remediation with working knowledge of structural engineering conventional practices. · Experience in seismic design and detailing for structural steel and reinforced concrete structures. regulations, and standards including IBC and ASCE. Experience reading, interpreting, and creating construction structural drawings, specifications, and submittal documents. · Solid working proficiency in related structural design software such as CSI and Bentley Structural package or equivalent. Solid working proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit, Bluebeam, Navisworks, sketch up and MS Office Suite. Experience in performing and reviewing seismic studies and calculations. Experience with shake table testing. Preferred Qualifications · Master’s or higher degree in Structural Engineering. Professional Civil/Structural Engineering (PE) License. · Experience directly related to data center or mission critical facility design. Site work experience. Basic understanding of large scale mechanical and electrical system components and designs. Strong knowledge of international building codes and regulations including IBC, ASCE, ACI, AISC, ASTM, and OSHA. · Detailed understanding of tilt-up and precast concrete structures, structural steel systems, seismic analysis, wind loading, snow loading, and building forensic analysis. Experience using a variety of web based and other software tools for calculation and data processing. · Detailed understanding of geotechnical engineering, structural modular design, building construction, forensic analysis of building design and construction defects, and evaluating value engineering for building structure and foundation. · Strong knowledge of international building codes and regulations including IBC, ASCE, ACI, AISC, ASTM, and OSHA. The base pay for this position ranges from $105,100/year in our lowest geographic market up to $185,000/year in our highest geographic market.
