Your Key Responsibilities - Preparing structural design calculations, plans and contract documents in accordance with applicable design and agency standards (i.e. AASHTO, ACI, AISC, VDOT, etc.) - Performing structural analysis of new designs and existing structures (bridges and other transportation structures) - Leading and reviewing conceptual design alternatives in order to develop innovative and cost-effective design solutions - Performs inspection of simple and complex bridges along with preparing the inspection reports Your Capabilities and Credentials - Ability to participate and collaborate in project team setting, engage in creative and critical thought, and effectively communicate ideas. - EIT is required. - Experience with AASHTO Bridge Design Specifications is required. - Experience with MDOT SHA, MDTA, and VDOT design criteria and requirements is preferred. - A working knowledge of MicroStation or AutoCAD is preferred. - Bridge load rating experience preferred. - Understanding of national and state bridge inspection methods, evaluations, and report preparation is preferred. - Successful Completion of FHWA/NHI Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges training course is preferred, but not required. - Ability to travel within the Maryland, Virginia, and District of Columbia area. - Ability to climb ladders, and work at heights using various bridge inspection access equipment. - Bridge Condition Inspection experience is a plus - Working knowledge of MicroStation - Excellent verbal and written skills - Experience on bridge design/analysis software. Education and Experience - Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Civil Engineering with an emphasis in Structural Engineering. Master's or advanced degree is a plus. - Minimum of 5+ years structural engineering experience on bridges and other transportation structures - EIT Required - Professional Engineer (P.E.) registration in Virginia (preferred) Position will work in an office setting and require field work.
