Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Stress Engineer to perform detailed and global finite element analysis to support structural design, modifications, and certification. This role involves executing classical hand calculations for static strength, fatigue, and damage tolerance analysis. The Stress Engineer will analyze structural components including fuselage, wings, empennage, nacelles, landing gear attachment areas, and interiors. The position requires collaboration with Design, Loads, Materials, and Liaison Engineering to ensure structural integrity and manufacturability of designs, while preparing and reviewing engineering documentation, including stress reports, substantiation packages, and compliance matrices. Additionally, the role includes supporting certification efforts with regulatory agencies and providing mentorship and technical leadership to junior engineers and analysts.
ResponsibilitiesPerform detailed and global finite element analysis to support structural design, modifications, and certification.Execute and validate classical hand calculations for static strength, fatigue, and damage tolerance analysis.Analyze structural components including fuselage, wings, empennage, nacelles, landing gear attachment areas, and interiors.Collaborate with Design, Loads, Materials, and Liaison Engineering to ensure structural integrity and manufacturability.Prepare and review engineering documentation, including stress reports, substantiation packages, and compliance matrices.Support certification efforts with regulatory agencies, including coordination with Design Approval Representatives.Assist in the development and maintenance of analysis tools, templates, and best practices for stress calculations.Provide mentorship and technical leadership to junior engineers and analysts.Essential SkillsBachelor’s or Master’s degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering.7-10 years of experience in aircraft structural stress analysis.Expertise in FEM tools such as NASTRAN, Patran, HyperMesh, FEMAP, or ANSYS.Strong experience with DFEM and GFEM modelling, mesh refinement, boundary conditions, and results interpretation.Proficient in hand calculations using classical methods.Comfortable using spreadsheets, scripting tools, and custom calculation tools.Solid understanding of certification requirements, including fatigue and damage tolerance criteria per FAR/CS Part 25.Experience preparing substantiation reports and interacting with certification authorities.Excellent communication, documentation, and problem-solving skills.Additional Skills & QualificationsFamiliarity with legacy aircraft structure and modification/repair analysis.Experience in weight optimization, composite structure analysis, or crashworthiness.Knowledge of PLM systems and configuration control processes.Work Environment
The work environment consists of a dynamic team of approximately 20 engineers, including 10 stress engineers and 10 structures engineers, allocated across various projects. New stress engineers will support projects such as the waterbomber or the twin otter. This role offers exposure to cutting-edge aerospace engineering challenges, collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, and the opportunity to apply deep technical skills to real-world applications.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $75.00/hr.
