Hours: 37 hours per week (Monday–Thursday: 7:30am–3:30pm, Friday: 7:30am–3:00pm)
Rate: PAYE: £12.18 per hour | Umbrella: £15.44 per hour
About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated Street Cleansing Operative to join our Waste & Cleansing team in Newport. Working under the supervision of the Contract Assistant Manager (Refuse & Cleansing) and Supervisors, you will undertake street cleansing duties to maintain the cleanliness of Newport’s public spaces in line with contract specifications and daily route schedules. This role requires a commitment to health and safety and delivering excellent public service.
Key Responsibilities
Complete daily street cleansing tasks as per contract specifications and daily route schedules.Comply with all health and safety regulations, including wearing Council-issued uniform, protective clothing, and footwear.Take reasonable care of personal and others’ safety, cooperating with managers/supervisors to meet statutory health and safety duties, and report incidents, accidents, or faults.Attend training courses when instructed.Undertake street cleansing duties as directed by the Contract Assistant Manager (Refuse & Cleansing) or Supervisors.Engage with members of the public professionally.Qualifications and Experience
Essential: Knowledge of the Newport City area.Desirable:
Experience in a refuse/cleansing environment.Understanding of public sector demands/requirements.Current, full UK driving licence.Skills and Attributes
Ability to work independently and as a good team player.Capability to meet targets and deadlines, prioritising and managing competing demands.Strong customer care skills and enthusiasm for serving the public.Self-motivated with a confident, positive attitude.Commitment to improving personal performance and willingness to learn new skills.Understanding and willingness to promote Newport City Council’s Equal Opportunities Policy.Supervisory Responsibilities
