Job Description
The Sterile Processing Technician is responsible for collecting used and contaminated equipment, instruments, and supplies for sorting and decontamination. This role involves manually cleaning supplies to remove contaminants, operating and maintaining decontamination equipment, preparing and packing decontaminated supplies for sterilization, and monitoring and operating sterilization equipment. The technician will meticulously examine supplies to ensure proper cleaning and sanitation, test and report any issues with the sterilization equipment, and sterilize, prepare, wrap, and organize equipment into instrument trays for use during medical procedures.
ResponsibilitiesCollect used and contaminated equipment, instruments, and supplies for sorting and decontamination.Manually clean supplies of contaminants and remove waste matter.Operate and maintain decontamination equipment.Prepare and pack decontaminated supplies for sterilization.Monitor and operate sterilization equipment.Examine supplies meticulously to ensure proper cleaning and sanitation.Test and report any issues or problems with the sterilization equipment.Sterilize, prepare, wrap, and organize equipment into instrument trays for use during medical procedures.Essential SkillsProficiency in sterilization and surgical instrumentation.Experience in sterile processing and aseptic technique.Possession of a Sterile Processing Technician license or certificate.Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.Experience in ambulatory, outpatient, or operating room settings.Additional Skills & QualificationsHigh School Diploma required.At least 1-2 years of relevant experience.Certification preferred but experience will be considered.Flexibility and reliability.Experience in OR, outpatient, or ambulatory settings preferred.Work Environment
The position operates Monday through Friday with 4 to 9-hour shifts, typically from 12:00 PM to 8:30 PM or 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM. The candidate should be flexible with shift availability as the workload varies based on the day's demand, with a constant flow of trays to sterilize. The environment is busy, handling 15 to 30 cases or trays per day, depending on the day's pace. Faster cases may take less time.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $21.00 - $25.00/hr.
