The Statistical Programmer II supports the Biostatistics Team’s mission of developing robust computational tools that enable biological discoveries from large-scale omics data and software package maintenance needs across the entire program’s faculty. This role maintains and enhances software infrastructure, develops interactive web-based interfaces, and contributes to scientific research through computational innovation.
This role will have the opportunity to work partially at our campus and remotely.
Responsibilities Maintain and update the lab’s existing codebases for published computational methods (R or Python packages), ensuring long-term compatibility and usabilityManage and update the lab’s website, including content and backend maintenanceDevelop web-based user interfaces for Python- and R-based computational toolsDownload, manage, and preprocess large biological datasetsOptimize the existing parallel computing framework and implement GPU acceleration where applicableCollaborate with team members to establish and implement standardized formats for documentation and tutorial materialsOther duties as assigned QualificationsMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree with at least two years of professional experience in Computer Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Data Science,Informatics, Mathematics, Statistics or a related field OR Master’s degree in epidemiology, public health, computer science, data science, informatics, mathematics or other related field.At least 1 year of academic or professional experience in Python (NumPy, PyTorch) and RProficiency with Linux system operations and Git version controlExperience maintaining and updating WordPress websitesProficiency in HTML and JavaScript, with hands-on experience in at least one front-end framework (e.g., React) and one back-end framework (e.g., Flask)Experience with statistical modeling and machine learning techniquesCommitment to clean coding practices and thorough, user-friendly documentationExperience in processing biological datasets and a proven ability to rapidly learn new tools and conceptsThe annual base salary range for this position is from $86,986 to $130,459 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.
