Under general supervision, the Building Automation System Controller (BASC) will work with the Building Automation System Administrator (BASA) in the administration and maintenance of the Building Automation System (BAS) program on behalf of the Minnesota Army National Guard. Duties include troubleshooting, monitoring, collecting data, summarizing data, repair and replacing BAS Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning (HVAC) components directly related to BAS HVAC controls, and reporting system issues to maintain the cohesion of the BAS that is associated with electrical, mechanical, environmental, energy, and utilities system supporting the HVAC systems. This position will work closely with the BASA, trades, engineering, contracting, and facility personnel to support the day-to-day operations of the entire BAS program. This position will assist the BASA with BAS operations to include maintenance, repair, and replacement of HVAC components critical to maintaining BAS control of the facility with all aspects of the BAS program to include building scheduling, review and analysis of system alarms with notification of trades as needed, and implementation as directed of the current program by effectively making recommendations for enhancement of the agencies BAS Program. The BASC will prepare data in support of this program. Position will require conducting related work on mechanical and electronic systems that are controlled by the BAS program. The nature of the duties will range from reoccurring monitoring and assessments of issues, to non-re-occurring analysis of information and providing technical assistance maintenance and repair in support of the BAS. **Minimum Qualifications** - Knowledge in electrical tools, safety standards and applicable building, fire and electrical codes. - Must have and maintain a valid Minnesota Driver’s license without restriction on hours of operation - Knowledge of system configuration components for building automation and associated HVAC systems. - Diagnostic and repair procedures for troubleshooting HVAC, energy, environmental, utilities, and BAS components. HR-RTF 8.11.2009 - Knowledge of facility maintenance software systems. -Knowledge of functional administrator permissions and password responsibilities for software on PC-based servers. -Knowledge of components and operation of a variety of HVAC systems found in the Minnesota Army National Guard facilities. - Knowledge of system configuration components for building automation and associated HVAC systems. - Extensive knowledge in programming of the BAS software and knowledge of the MN National Guard LAN. - Knowledge of configuration and functional administrator responsibilities for software on PC-based servers - Knowledge and ability to create and maintain variety of reports and other related documentation. - Knowledge and ability to create and maintain variety of reports and other related documentation using both the automation system software and other Microsoft Office tools. -Ability to provide technical, user support and training to staff and end users as related to functions of the BAS. - Ability to communicate effectively with other trades and end users in order to solve problems remotely. - Abilities in communicating effectively in verbal and oral methods and with multi-party teams. - Ability to problem solve and to diagnose problems quickly, make adjustments and recommendations. Must be able to identify problems, summarize the situation and then make a sound evaluation to develop reasonable and logical solution. - Read and interpret architectural, mechanical and electrical schematics. - Extensive knowledge in the usage and operation of the JCI software and knowledge of the MN Army National Guard LAN. -Ability to collect, verify data, analyze information and synthesize it into relevant information to support decisions. - Ability to work with general supervision and provide recommendations for enhancement; as well as the application of recommendations as directed for BAS program. - Must have a Minnesota driver’s license in order to travel to facilities. - Ability to work with limited supervision as the subject matter expert for the program and provide recommendations for enhancement as well as implementation of action steps for program components. - Ability to pass required background investigations in order to be granted access to the MN National Guard network. -Must have the ability to diagnose, troubleshoot and identify solutions to problems. Will have the authority under general supervision to address issues and implement solutions to meet goals and objectives that are consistent with other supporting sustainability plans and end user requirements. **Preferred Qualifications** - Experience with the JCI Metasys Building Automation System software - Experience with low voltage/Electrical Power-Limited equipment - Experience with a facility maintenance management software system - 5 years’ experience fixing HVAC related issues - Ability to obtain a Boiler Engineer License (Special Classification) within 6 months of employment **Physical Requirements** **Position may require lifting objects up to 50 pounds and lifting/carrying objects such as heavy tools, ladders and equipment. Job will require a significant amount of time sitting at a computer workstation but may also require walking or standing to a on rough terrain and may involve sitting, crawling, bending and stooping with pushing and pulling of arms and/or leg controls. Ability to work in an environment which may include exposure to dust, noise, heat, moisture and adverse weather conditions such as heat, cold, snow, rain and/or wind. Position will also require some travel by vehicle to facilities.
