The State and Local Tax Senior Manager will manage the state income tax life cycle including compliance, provision, audit and panning. The ideal candidate will serve as primary internal subject matter expert on state income/franchise and indirect tax issues ensuring compliance and achieves this goal through optimizing reporting procedures and driving the successful tax function.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Assist with state and local tax issues as they relate to the ASC 740 interim and annual tax provisions Identify and implement state and local tax projects such as nexus analysis, legal entity evaluation and structuring, review of apportionment methodologies, and entry into new states Continuous monitoring and communication of tax law changes in the various states and localities Lead state and local tax due diligence efforts related to acquisitions Manage external state audits Identify and capture state tax savings and incentive opportunities; mitigate risk Support sales/use, property tax, and payroll tax issues arising at the operation level (we are decentralized for these state tax matters) Manage the development of the tax department team members’ understanding of state and local taxes Ability to research, analyze, and effectively communicate conclusions regarding all state and local tax issues Lead implementation of enhancements to processes and procedures related to evolution of the company, changes in the business environment, and tax law changes Work with Vice President – Tax to balance the use of outside providers with internal resources to accomplish the department's goals and objectives

Experience and Education:

Must have at least 8 years of state and local tax experience in public accounting and/or private industry (5 or more years in public accounting preferred but not required) Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance, master’s or law degree helpful Personnel management experience not required, project leadership experience is necessary

Required Skills:

In-depth knowledge of state and local income/franchise tax and sufficient knowledge of sales and use, property, and state withholding tax to be able to troubleshoot issues for our operationsKnowledge of federal and international tax concepts as they relate to state and local income tax mattersKnowledge of Subchapter C of the Internal Revenue Code to be able to apply the provisions in the state tax context to execute planning strategies and risk mitigationWorking knowledge of US GAAP and ASC 740Proficiency in MS Excel and Oracle Hyperion Financial Management, Alteryx and Power BI a plus but not necessaryStrong attention to detail and sense of urgencyExcellent communication skillsCritical Thinking – using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.Time Management – ability to prioritize workload and manage one's own timeTechnical background – professional with a demonstrated ability to lead a technical areaActs as a business partner – collaborative mindset, can articulate complex issues and regulations to business leadersPlayer/coach – brings credibility, confidence, and leadership to a new role, enjoys mentoring and leading a team of technical professionals but also has the ability to be hands onEntrepreneurial spirit – thrives in an environment that is constantly changing and performs well with little guidance
