We are looking for a full-time Staff Substitute to support our Early Learning Programs. The Staff Substitute will work in collaboration with the Scheduling and Staffing Coordinator to provide coverage for absences in the Early Learning Department. The Staff Substitute is responsible for the care and education of a group of children as part of a teaching team and functions as a substitute in the absence of the regular staff member or teacher in a classroom.

What are the duties and responsibilities?

Classroom ManagementCreate a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the studentsUnderstand the responsibility of being a mandated child abuse/neglect reporter according to PA State LawMaintain a neat and orderly classroom by straightening chairs and tables, cleaning chalkboard at the end of the day, and making sure all items are left as they were in the beginning of the dayTake attendance in accordance with policies and proceduresEnsure that students and/or children are never left unattended in the classroom or put in an unsafe situationEmploy instructional methods and materials that are most appropriate for meeting lesson objectivesChild SupervisionSupervise all activities to ensure safety at all timesGear the program to the needs of individual children with concerns for their interests, abilities, special talents and individual style and pace of learningCoordinate activities of Assistant Group Supervisors and AidesAssist with the ordered arrangement, appearance, décor and learning environment of the classroom and its learning centersQuality of CareBe engaged with the children at all timesLearn and understand policies and follow them at all timesTreat children with dignity and respectRegulation RequirementsFollow all Department of Human Services, PKC and STARS requirements at all times when in Early Learning LocationsFollow all Pennsylvania Department of Education requirements at all times when in PDE licensed programsKnow the number and names of all children in your group at all timesReport cases of suspected child abuse/neglect according to PA State Law 

What are the required qualifications?

A high school diploma or a general educational development certificate and 30 credit hours from an accredited college or university in early childhood education, child development, special education, elementary education or the human service field; orA high school diploma or a general educational development certificate, including 600 hours of secondary training (CCP or CDA); orA high school diploma or a general educational development certificate, 15 credit hours from an accredited college or university in early childhood education, child development, special education, elementary education or the human service field and 1 year of experience with children; orA high school diploma or a general educational development certificate and completion of a post-secondary training curriculum (CCP or CDA); orA high school diploma or a general educational development certificate and 2 years of experience with children; orA bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in early childhood education, child development, special education, elementary education or the human service field; orA bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, including 30 credit hours in early childhood education, child development, special education, elementary education or the human service field and 1 year experience with children; orAn associate’s degree from an accredited college or university in early childhood education, child development, special education, elementary education or the human service field and 2 years of experience with children; orAn associate’s degree from an accredited college or university, including 30 credit hours in early childhood education, child development, special education, elementary education or the human service field and 3 years of experience with children.
