Staff Software Engineer (Python)

The Test & Measurement Group in Penang is seeking a skilled Python developer to join our DevOps team. This team is responsible for building and maintaining the end-to-end infrastructure that supports a comprehensive testing ecosystem. This ecosystem enables automated validation of both software and physical hardware components across NI’s portfolio of products.   As a DevOps Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining Python-based tools that support test automation and infrastructure. You will develop and manage CI/CD pipelines to streamline software validation workflows, monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues across hardware and software layers, and automate infrastructure provisioning and deployment processes. Collaboration with development and operations teams will be essential to ensure a robust and scalable testing environment.   You will play a key role in supporting MTO’s mission to deliver scalable, reliable, and efficient validation systems. By contributing to the automation and orchestration of the testing lifecycle, your work will help ensure the quality and stability of every software release.   In this Role, Your Responsibilities Will Be: Serve internal clients with testing infrastructure throughout their Software Development Life Cycle Define, develop and maintain Python tools, and Javascript/Typescript web apps. You will write code, and review code. Implement and follow standard methodologies for DevOps operations Work and interact with colleagues from other divisions such as R&D, manufacturing, or other business groups with global teams (e.g. USA, India) Note this is primarily an on-site role but with some flexibility to work from home 1-2 days per week. Who You Are: A proactive and detail-oriented engineer with a passion for automation, infrastructure, and high-quality software delivery. You have strong Python development skills and a solid understanding of DevOps practices. You thrive in collaborative environments, enjoy solving complex technical challenges, and are motivated by the impact your work has on product quality and developer productivity. Your curiosity drives you to continuously improve systems and processes, and you take pride in building tools that empower others.   For This Role, You Will Need: B.S. or M.S. in computer science, and/or computer engineering, and/or electrical engineering Minimum 2 years of experience in relevant field. Strong proficiency in Python Solid grasp of data structures and object-oriented principles Experience with computer architecture and operating systems (Linux, Windows) Familiarity with Git and other version control system Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Familiarity with Agile and Scrum methodologies Experience in full-stack web development Excellent communication skills in English, including technical communications. Familiarity with system level hardware testing (e.g. functional, stress, compatibility, benchmarking, calibration, etc.) Preferred Qualifications that Set You Apart: Experience with automated testing Familiarity with containerization and container orchestration (e.g., Kubernetes, Rancher) Experience with Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Ansible, Salt) Knowledge of Azure DevOps and pipelines Understanding of networking concepts (e.g., VLAN, DHCP, DNS) and network debugging Familiarity with electronic engineering concepts Familiarity with virtualization technologies (e.g. Proxmox) Experience with cloud technologies (e.g. AWS)
