Staff Software Engineer - Membership

As part of the team, you’ll play a key role by innovating on member value by building the next generation of benefits with XFN across the company (including UberEats, Rides, Courier, Pricing, Marketplace, Fintech and more). You’ll optimize how members get those benefits to maximize value for each member and across all members. You’ll also lead the evolution and shape the platform for strategic company initiatives across all products and lines of business. If you’re passionate about driving key company impact, building products, and solving complex system problems, then the Membership team is the perfect fit for you. **What You Will Do** - Identify new impactful opportunities for the org to invest in that bring increased value to members and increase member engagement - Collaborate with talented engineers, PMs, Data Science and Designers to design, build, and optimize products used by millions of members - Write high-quality code and uphold standards for testing and coverage. Contribute to engineering cultivation in terms of quality, monitoring, and on-call practices. - Build solutions to ambiguous problems and architect designs for complex systems. Align the org on complex tradeoffs to various different technical designs and solutions - Mentor and coach other engineers. Provide thought leadership - Improve how our org operates and promote standard processes to increase engineering efficiency and stability **Basic Qualifications** - Bachelors (or higher) in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics or related field - 5-years full-time Software Engineering work experience - Experience in Java, Go, Python, C/C++ or other equivalent languages - Proven track record of shipping high quality, scalable, production-ready code. - Owns the full development lifecycle—from architecture and coding to testing, deployment, and maintenance. **Preferred Qualifications** - Understands complex business needs and user pain points through data and research. Builds impactful products that drive customer value and business results. - Works effectively across teams and systems. Designs scalable, clean solutions that align with multiple teams' goals. - Experience building and optimizing marketplace systems is preferred, especially in 0-to-1 feature development. - Skilled in building, debugging, and optimizing full-stack systems across backend and mobile platforms (iOS/Android). - Stays current with industry trends and drives innovation through scalable, forward-looking solutions. - Partners closely with PM, design, and data to define strategy and drive execution. - Understands broader company goals and identifies opportunities to maximize team and org impact. - Strong communicator and team player. Mentors others and contributes to technical direction. For New York, NY-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$223,000 per year - USD$248,000 per year. You will be eligible to participate in Uber's bonus program, and may be offered an equity award & other types of comp. You will also be eligible for various benefits.
