We're on a mission to build the best observability platform in the world for engineers to understand and scale their systems, applications, and teams. We operate at high scale—trillions of data points per day—providing always-on alerting, metrics visualization, logs, and application tracing for tens of thousands of companies. Our engineering culture values pragmatism, honesty, and simplicity to solve hard problems the right way.
The OpportunityDatadog is looking for a Staff Engineer to join the Datadog for Developers team. This role is a unique opportunity to lead from the front: shaping how developers build, test, deploy, and debug software across our entire platform. You'll focus on delivering powerful, AI-enhanced tools and experiences that meet developers where they are—in their IDE, CI/CD pipeline, source control, or the Datadog web UI.
You will help build and scale systems that offer full visibility into the software delivery lifecycle, and you’ll work directly with product teams to integrate Datadog into daily engineering workflows. Whether it’s in a GitHub pull request, a terminal, or an interactive dashboard, your work will help developers ship high-quality software, faster.
A major aspect of the role involves leveraging AI to automate fixes and guide debugging across the development lifecycle. You’ll develop systems that detect and resolve issues like runtime errors, performance regressions, flaky tests, and code vulnerabilities—whether they surface in CI or production. These systems will empower engineers to move quickly while maintaining confidence in the code they ship.
As a Staff Engineer in this space, you'll play a pivotal role in pushing the boundaries of developer experience for Datadog customers, driving innovation that directly impacts thousands of engineers every day.
What You’ll Do Contribute to the development of AI-powered tools that generate fixes for CI failures, runtime errors, performance regressions, and other common issues. Rapidly prototype and validate solutions to ambiguous and complex engineering problems, and work with other engineers to bring those solutions to production. Influence the roadmap for the group by advocating for novel product and platform ideas that differentiate Datadog and deliver high value to customers. Collaborate with product managers, designers, and engineers to deliver tools that are powerful, fast, and intuitive. Mentor engineers across teams, offering technical guidance and shaping architectural decisions.
Who You Are A BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience. 10+ years of experience designing and operating complex, high-scale systems. 4+ years in a technical leadership role driving large, cross-team initiatives. Deep expertise in software delivery pipelines, CI/CD systems, and developer experience. You have relevant experience with Large Language Models, large-scale systems and data sets, machine learning, or adjacent fields You have experience writing developer tools (such as IDEs, static code analysis tools, or compilers)
Datadog values people from all walks of life. We understand not everyone will meet all the above qualifications on day one. That's okay. If you’re passionate about technology and want to grow your skills, we encourage you to apply.
