**What You Will Do**
As a Staff Mechanical Design Engineer, you will work as part of a team on the design and integration of multiple mechanical subsystems and components into a large, complex electro-mechanical medical device which serves to manage smoke and fluid in an OR setting. You will support design and development, from inception phase to launch. The role will focus on the design, development, and validation of plastic components and assemblies for complex electro-mechanical systems. The ideal candidate will have experience in designing components for **injection molding** , **thermoforming** , and **design for manufacturability (DFM)** . You’ll work cross-functionally with industrial design, manufacturing, quality, and regulatory teams to deliver innovative and reliable products.
**_Responsibilities:_**
+ Lead the design, development, and evaluation of plastic and polymer materials, assemblies, and subsystems for electro-mechanical medical devices, with expertise in thermoforming and injection molding processes.
+ Translate user needs into detailed design inputs and independently develop complex, system-level designs, with emphasis on plastics, manufacturability, and performance optimization.
+ Apply and mentor others in advanced engineering principles, focusing on fluid management, filtration, suction, thermal management, and clinical application alignment.
+ Conduct advanced prototyping, material selection, and validation testing; guide resolution of complex design issues and lead one or more technical areas of expertise.
+ Drive innovation through technology exploration, development of patents or trade secrets, and contribute to competitive and market strategy using in-depth domain knowledge.
+ Execute customer-facing activities such as voice of customer and customer-centric design in collaboration with cross-functional stakeholders, ensuring regulatory and design standards compliance.
+ Lead engineering documentation creation (e.g., Design History File), contribute to R&D procedures, and influence industry standard development while mentoring others on best practices.
+ Collaborate with R&D, Quality, Regulatory, Manufacturing, Clinical, Marketing, Industrial Design, and Project Management to ensure successful project execution and continuous improvement in materials and design processes.
**What You Need**
**_Required Qualifications_**
+ Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
+ 6+ years of work experience
**_Preferred_**
+ Experience in developing electromechanical components and assemblies, with familiarity in system processes such as fluid management, filtration, suction, or thermal management.
+ Experience in developing and optimizing complex mechanical or electro-mechanical designs using Design for Manufacturing (DFM) principles.
+ Experience in creating engineering drawings and 3D models, applying Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), and using Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE) tools for design optimization.
+ Experience using PTC CREO for CAD design and Windchill for product data management.
+ Experience in developing test protocols for validating electro-mechanical systems.
+ Knowledge of materials, manufacturing processes, and product development technologies to support complex system designs.
