Staff Environmental Scientist - Land Use Planning, Siting & Routing (Denver)
**Description** Burns & McDonnell is actively seeking a Staff Environmental Scientist – Land Use, Siting & Routing for our Denver, CO, office. The position will support our project management team to successfully complete routing and siting studies, local government permitting, and environmental permitting. The candidate will execute tasks for both small and large-scale projects including but not limited to assisting with developing proposals and cost estimates, executing project tasks, and assisting with developing strategic plans associated with electric or other infrastructure related projects. The candidate will support and execute environmental projects and be a technical author on various routing and siting documents and environmental permit applications. Tasks include developing permit matrices, completion of permit applications, evaluating land use/zoning and environmental factors for project development, and analyzing local and environmental data to support alternative analysis documents for various types of projects, including high-voltage transmission line routing, renewables, power generation construction activities, and pipelines. The selected candidate will work within our Environmental Services (ENS) Global Practice to perform the following duties: + Prepare environmental studies, evaluations, and local and state documentation for all types and sizes of infrastructure projects. + Ability to work independently and demonstrate competence in technical writing related to technical reports and regulatory (Federal, State, local) documents. + Execute tasks related to local government permitting, environmental compliance, environmental permitting, and agency consultations. + Work with clients, resource agencies, environmental and technical staff to prepare environmental documents and related technical studies. + Serve as a technical resource for the ENS team in the area of land use planning and development. + Interpret land use codes for clients and project teams. + Develop, cultivate, and strengthen relationships with clients. + Assist with developing business for the Mountain ENS Global Practice. + Other duties, as assigned. **Qualifications** + B.S. or M.S. in Environmental Science, Planning, Geography, Landscape Architecture, Urban & Regional Planning, or Natural and/or Cultural Resources Management or related field from an accredited university. + Minimum 4 years related professional experience (consulting experience highly preferred). + Specific experience in electric transmission, transportation, renewables, and other similar markets is preferred. + Local and regional knowledge and relationships with existing clients is preferred. + Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills are required to develop and maintain relationships. + Solid time management and follow-through skills, with the ability to simultaneously work on and manage multiple tasks/projects with tight deadlines. + Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. + Proficient with GPS and excellent writing skills. + Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office suite. + Strong experience working with both private and public-sector clients. + Business development in both sectors is beneficial. **Compensation** $90,000.00-140,000.00 Yearly The expected compensation range for this position is displayed in compliance with all local/state regulations. The expected compensation range for this position is based on a number of factors, including but not limited to: individual education, qualifications, prior work experience and work location.
