Staff Embedded Software Engineer, Gateway

What you'll do… + Develop and improve of the existing Ethernet network stack for automotive gateway applications. + Bring up and configure new Ethernet drivers for various hardware platforms. + Optimize existing communication paths to improve network performance and reduce latency. + Work with hardware and debuggers at a bench and HIL level to verify software operation and troubleshoot issues. + Design and implement security-critical authentication schemes for verifying OEM hardware and ensuring system integrity. + Program and optimize state-of-the-art 10Base-T1S switches for automotive network applications. + Design and implement interfaces with 10Base-T1S networks using a variety of protocols and PHYs. + Create comprehensive technical documentation for software designs, implementations, and test results. + Develop and execute unit tests to ensure software quality and reliability. + Collaborate with the validation team to define test strategies and ensure comprehensive test coverage. + Hands-on experience with Ethernet network stack development and optimization. + Ability to collaborate and communicate complex technical concepts effectively. + Ability to deliver high-quality, well-documented code in a real-time embedded environment. + Understanding of modern automotive network architectures and communication protocols. + Familiarity with continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines and software build infrastructure. + Strong debugging and problem-solving skills. You'll have… + Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, or a combination of education and equivalent experience. + Automotive RTOS experience + 5+ years of relevant experience in automotive networking or embedded systems development. + Strong familiarity with Ethernet networks, especially 100Base-T and 10Base-T1S. + Solid understanding of the TCP/IP stack and lightweight IP (LWIP) implementations. + Familiarity with continuous development and software development processes, including Agile methodologies. + Strong documentation, writing, and communication skills.Even better, you may have...Experience with network security protocols and technologies. + Experience with automotive diagnostic protocols (e.g., UDS). + Experience with software build tools like CMake, Bazel, + Experience with scripting languages (e.g., Python) for test automation. + Background in network and/or hardware security + Knowledge of automotive functional safety standards (e.g., ISO 26262) + You may not check every box, or your experience may look a little different from what we've outlined, but if you think you can bring value to Ford Motor Company, we encourage you to apply!
