About the Role The New York Times is looking for an editor to help curate and produce the Opinion section of the print newspaper. This is a hybrid position, based in New York City and includes regular attendance in the office each week per your departmental guidance. Responsibilities: + Select Opinion pieces to appear in the daily newspaper + Manage copy flow for the daily print newspaper + Write compelling display type + Edit Opinion pieces for length and accuracy + Collaborate with story editors, copy editors, art directors, photo editors and news assistants to ensure the print report is dynamic, engaging, timely, accurate and sent to press on time. + Follow The Times's editorial standards. + Demonstrate support and understanding of our value of journalistic independence (https://www.nytco.com/company/mission-and-values/) and a strong commitment to our mission to seek the truth and help people understand the world. + You will report to the print editor in Opinion. Basic Qualifications: + 5+ years of journalism experience + 1+ years of experience editing for print + Experience writing accurate, engaging display type + Experience working in a deadline-driven news environment Preferred Qualifications: + Excellent news judgment + Editing skills around trimming for fit + Experience shifting priorities and demands based on department needs and the news cycle + A spirit of collaboration This position is represented by the NewsGuild of NY.
