Staff DevOps and Networking Engineer

The Digital Manufacturing Systems (DMS) team at Ford is building the digital factory of the future—a software-defined manufacturing ecosystem that integrates process, product, and production to empower operators and engineers like never before. In this position...

As a key member of this innovative team, you will:  

Build resilient infrastructure that supports operational technology security, throughput optimization, and device discovery in Ford’s factories.   Develop and maintain network and DevOps solutions for real-time connectivity and deployment in manufacturing environments.   Work with hardware, software, and data teams to integrate secure networks into Ford’s digital factory ecosystem.   Enable real-time data exchange and monitoring for proactive factory management.   Advance Ford’s in-house platforms for seamless, scalable operations in connected manufacturing.

You'll have...

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science & Engineering, similar or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience 6+ years of experience in production settings across DevOps, network engineering, or infrastructure, with proven expertise in containerization, Infrastructure as Code, and deployment tools including Docker, Kubernetes, or Terraform 2+ years experience designing IoT device networks, including discovery, leveraging a strong understanding of the OSI model and transmission protocols. 2+ years of experience is required in utilizing monitoring tools and developing automation scripts (e.g., Python, Bash).  1+ year of experience with cloud infrastructure, specifically deploying applications and services into Google Cloud Platform (GCP), AWS or Azure 1+ year of experience in networks, IIoT security, or edge computing environments

What you'll do...

Design and implement automated CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code, and network configurations for high-availability systems.   Manage the end-to-end DevOps lifecycle, including automation, monitoring, and scaling of manufacturing applications.   Lead network security, optimization, and discovery for connected devices and edge computing in factories.   Proactively address infrastructure issues, ensuring minimal downtime in production environments.   Mentor engineers on DevOps practices and network design, fostering a culture of efficiency and innovation.   Define infrastructure strategy, evaluate Infrastructure as code tools, and adapt them to manufacturing needs.   Maintain secure, compliant networks that support real-time data flows and IoT integrations.
