Staff Assistant, The Hartford/Hartford Investment Management Company 

 

The Hartford is seeking a motivated and experienced Staff Assistant to work with The Hartford’s  Chief Investment Officer (”CIO”) / President of Hartford Investment Management Company (“HIMCO”). The Staff Assistant will independently provide advanced, diversified, and confidential executive administrative support requiring broad experience, skills, high emotional intelligence and knowledge of organization operations, policies and practices and people management. This role will also lead and coordinate HIMCO’s administrative team to ensure operational excellence across the firm.  The Staff Assistant will have expert communication skills, judgement, and discretion and will make an impact that helps us deliver impeccable results for our internal and external shareholders. This role reports directly to the CIO/President and is based in our Hartford, CT Home office. 
 
Responsibilities: 

 Partner closely with this C-suite leader: Organize a complex calendar and schedule; manage meeting set-up including invitations, room reservations, technology, meeting materials, and other related items; effectively manage prioritization and use decision-making skills to resolve potential schedule conflicts 

Use discretion, confidentiality, and sound judgment to handle C-Level matters. Proactively anticipate needs and manage situations appropriately 

Prepare information (read, collect, analyze data in advance) utilizing the appropriate format to be used in presentations and leadership meetings 

Manage three Administrative Assistants who support HIMCO’s Executive Leadership team through providing direction on operational practices, executing core administrative tasks, supporting seamless executive and client interactions, and fostering a collaborative team environment that adapts to evolving business needs 

Build great partnerships with stakeholders including The Hartford’s Executive Leadership team, HIMCO’s Executive Leadership Team, HIMCO’s administrative team, and The Hartford’s broader administrative assistant community 

Assist in managing or providing support for special projects and/or initiatives 

Ensure team related documents, distribution lists, organizational charts, and other materials are maintained 

Expense processing for the CIO and review/approvals for CIO’s direct reports 

 

Qualifications: 
 

Minimum of 7 or more years of experience successfully supporting a C-Level executive in a large corporate environment; experience in a financial service settings a plus. This experience would include the demonstrated ability with the following skills and experience: 
 

Ability to effectively support multiple competing priorities and end-to-end planning for timely delivery of key deliverables to client, Hartford and HIMCO leaders, and/or the board of directors 

 Strong organizational skills that reflect ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks seamlessly with excellent attention to detail, data integrity, and accuracy 

Providing complex administrative support in a high-visibility environment with tact and diplomacy; able to work effectively with all levels of stakeholders inside and outside of The Hartford 

Expert level written and verbal communication skills; proofreading and excellent grammar skills  

Demonstrated experience of increasing responsibility and management experience of a team  
 

Highly resourceful team-player; able to be effective working independently; demonstrated proactive approach to problem-solving with strong decision-making capability, excellent judgment 

Emotionally mature and proven high level of discretion; experience working with sensitive and confidential topics 

Leader mindset, self-starter and forward thinker who actively seeks opportunities and is solution-oriented; intellectually curious and engaged; interested in understanding the business and willing and able to learn about it 

Demonstrated ability to achieve high performance goals and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment 

Able to maintain composure and high degree of professionalism at all times 

Experience managing, leading a team, and/or mentoring helpful 

Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Copilot) 

Able to work flexible hours as dictated by the needs of business for projects and meetings, as well as to be responsive off hours as business needs require 

 

Hartford Investment Management Company is the asset management arm of The Hartford Insurance Group, Inc.   HIMCO is an insurance asset manager with approximately $116 billion in assets under management across the global fixed income and alternatives markets (as of March 31, 2025).  The firm manages assets on behalf of The Hartford, as well as insurance, sub-advisory and other institutional clients.

Compensation

The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:

$108,320 - $162,480
