**About Enterprise Architecture: **
Enterprise Architecture is an organization within the Chief Technology Office at American Express and it is a key enabler of the company’s technology strategy. The four pillars of Enterprise Architecture include:
1. **Architecture as** **Code** : this pillar owns and operates foundational technologies that are leveraged by engineering teams across the enterprise.
2. **Architecture as Design** : this pillar includes the solution and technical design for transformation programs and business critical projects which need architectural guidance and support.
3. **Governance** : this pillar is responsible for defining technical standards, and developing innovative tools that automate controls to ensure compliance.
4. **Colleague Enablement:** this pillar is focused on colleague development, recognition, training, and enterprise outreach.
**Responsibilities: **
+ **Lead Data Architecture** : Define, design, and implement architectural patterns and solutions to embed data security, privacy, compliance (e.g., GDPR, CCPA), and data quality controls directly into our enterprise data platforms and pipelines.
+ **Drive Data Product Strategy & Architecture** : Architect, evangelize, and guide the development of data products, transforming raw data into discoverable, usable, and high-value assets for internal and external consumption.
+ **Architect the Enterprise Data Marketplace** : Design and guide in build the foundational architecture for a centralized data marketplace, enabling seamless data discovery, secure access, and efficient data sharing across the organization.
+ **Define Enterprise Data Standards** : Establish and promote best practices, architectural patterns, and data standards for data modeling, data integration, data storage, and data processing across the enterprise.
+ **Technical Leadership & Mentorship** : Provide technical leadership, guidance, and mentorship to engineering teams, fostering a culture of architectural excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement.
+ **Cross-Functional Influence & Collaboration** : Partner closely with engineering teams, product, legal, compliance, security, and business units to translate strategic objectives into robust data architecture solutions. Influence technical decisions and drive consensus across diverse stakeholders.
+ **Innovation & Research** : Stay abreast of emerging data technologies, industry trends, and regulatory changes, evaluating their potential impact and advocating for adoption where appropriate.
+ **Documentation & Communication** : Create clear, concise, and comprehensive architectural documentation, diagrams, and presentations for both technical and non-technical audiences.
**Minimum Qualifications:**
+ 10 years of progressive experience in data architecture, software engineering, or related technical roles, with at least 3 years specifically focused on architecting large-scale enterprise data solutions.
+ Proven experience designing, building, and operating highly scalable, resilient, and performant data architectures using modern data platforms (data lakes, data warehouses, streaming platforms).
+ Cloud Data Proficiency: Deep hands-on experience with at least one major public cloud provider's data services (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
+ AWS: S3, Glue, Athena, Redshift, Snowflake, Databricks, Kinesis, MSK, EMR.
+ Azure: Data Lake Storage, Data Factory, Synapse Analytics, Databricks, Event Hubs, Azure Stream Analytics.
+ GCP: Cloud Storage, BigQuery, Dataflow, Dataproc, Pub/Sub.
+ Demonstrated experience / Good understanding in designing and implementing data governance frameworks, data security mechanisms (e.g., access control, encryption, masking), and embedding data privacy/compliance controls into data architectures.
+ Good knowledge of various data modeling techniques (dimensional, relational, NoSQL) and extensive experience with complex ETL/ELT processes and tools (e.g., Apache Spark, Flink, Kafka, Airflow, dbt).
+ Experience with data mesh principles or similar decentralized data architectures
+ Proven collaboration skills along with the ability to influence without authority
+ Hands on experience in the following environments is preferred: Java,Go,Vert.x,React, Envoy, gRPC, ProtoBuf, JSON, CouchBase, Cassandra, Redis,Consul, Jenkins, docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift, Drools, Elastic Stack,Kafka, Spark, ML
+ Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Computer Science Engineering, or related field required; Advanced Degree preferred.
**Qualifications**
Salary Range: $170,000.00 to $255,000.00 annually bonus equity (if applicable) benefits
