Staff Accountant
Job Description We’re seeking a personable and detail-oriented Staff Accountant to support branch-level accounting operations across assigned regions. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a collaborative environment, communicates well with customer-facing teams like loan officers and branch managers, and enjoys balancing independent problem-solving with team support. You’ll be responsible for managing monthly close activities, analyzing P&L variances, and supporting compensation processes. The ideal candidate brings a strong accounting foundation, a great attitude, and the ability to connect with internal stakeholders professionally and personably. Key Responsibilities Own monthly close tasks including 40–50 journal entries, adjustments, and 1–2 account reconciliations. Analyze branch-level P&L statements and respond to inquiries about revenue and expenses. Support compensation processes including override and bonus memos, appraisals, credit reports, and flood fees. Collaborate with branch managers and internal teams to clarify financial details and train on P&L structure. Assist with interpreting compensation contracts and using tools like Axis for calculations. Contribute to continuous process improvements and help rebuild team workflows as needed. Be a team player—support other regions when needed and contribute to a positive, easygoing team culture. Skills and Requirements Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Economics preferred; relevant experience may substitute. 2–3 years of accounting experience for Level II; 4+ years for Senior Staff. Strong understanding of GAAP, GL, and branch accounting. Ability to work independently, search for solutions, and communicate effectively with non-finance stakeholders. Familiarity with Axis or similar compensation software is helpful.
