Description We are looking for a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our team on a contract basis. Based in Asheville, North Carolina, this role involves managing key accounting functions to ensure accurate financial reporting and compliance. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in accounting practices and a proactive approach to problem-solving. Responsibilities: • Prepare and review journal entries to ensure accuracy and compliance with accounting standards. • Maintain and reconcile the general ledger, ensuring all accounts are balanced and discrepancies are addressed. • Oversee the preparation and submission of corporate tax returns, ensuring compliance with regulations. • Handle sales tax filings and ensure timely and accurate reporting of all tax obligations. • Perform month-end close processes, including preparing financial reports and analyzing profit and loss statements. • Assist in preparing and maintaining balance sheets and other financial documents. • Utilize QuickBooks Enterprise to manage accounting tasks and generate financial reports. • Collaborate with other team members to streamline accounting processes and improve efficiency. • Stay updated on tax laws and accounting practices to ensure compliance and accuracy in all financial activities. • Provide support during audits by preparing necessary documentation and addressing inquiries. Requirements • A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in accounting or a related field. • Proficiency in QuickBooks Enterprise and other accounting software. • Strong knowledge of corporate tax return preparation and sales tax reporting. • Expertise in handling journal entries and maintaining the general ledger. • Familiarity with preparing profit and loss statements and balance sheets. • Excellent attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
