Staff Accountant
Description We are looking for a highly organized and detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our team in Baltimore, Maryland. This Contract-to-permanent position offers an excellent opportunity for a skilled individual to contribute to financial operations, ensuring accuracy and compliance in accounting processes. The ideal candidate will excel in managing accounts, preparing journal entries, and supporting audits. Responsibilities: • Process accounts payable payments, including checks, electronic bill payments, and wire transfers, while verifying documents for accuracy. • Prepare employee reimbursements and ensure timely reporting to payroll on a bi-weekly basis. • Manage remote check deposits by transmitting data to the bank and recording transactions in the general ledger. • Record cash receipts and accounts receivable, maintaining organized documentation for each transaction. • Prepare and post journal entries for daily, monthly, and year-end accounting activities. • Review journal entries created by finance staff for accuracy before recording them in the general ledger. • Oversee fixed asset management, including tracking additions, disposals, and monthly depreciation, while reconciling the subsystem to the general ledger. • Perform monthly bank reconciliations and make necessary adjustments to ensure financial accuracy. • Maintain and reconcile balance sheet accounts, construction-in-progress schedules, and other financial records. • Complete month-end closing procedures within established deadlines, ensuring all tasks are accounted for. Requirements • Proficiency in preparing journal entries and maintaining accurate general ledger records. • Strong experience with accounts payable and accounts receivable processes. • Familiarity with bank reconciliations and daily cash receipt management. • Knowledge of fixed asset accounting, including depreciation calculations and reconciliations. • Competence in using accounting software, with experience in Blackbaud being an advantage. • Exceptional organizational skills to maintain detailed financial records and support audits. • Ability to work independently while meeting strict deadlines. • Excellent communication skills for collaborating with team members and external auditors.
