Description We are looking for a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our team in Los Angeles, California. This is a long-term contract opportunity that offers the chance to work on diverse financial activities and contribute to the effective management of student government accounts. The ideal candidate will bring strong accounting expertise, leadership capabilities, and a commitment to delivering accurate financial services.
Responsibilities:
• Prepare budgets and monitor monthly financial performance for student government accounts.
• Analyze and reconcile subsidiary and general ledger accounts to ensure accuracy and compliance.
• Generate routine and special financial reports, including year-end lead sheets and audit schedules.
• Assist in the year-end closing process and coordinate necessary documentation for audits.
• Communicate financial policies and budget guidelines while ensuring adherence to applicable laws and regulations.
• Supervise, train, evaluate, and provide guidance to accounting staff.
• Perform in-depth audits and ensure compliance with accounting policies and procedures.
• Maintain accurate records, including bi-weekly check runs, stop payments, and quarterly bank reconciliations.
• Monitor positive pay systems and oversee annual financial distributions.
• Support special assignments and collaborate with other divisions as needed. Requirements • Minimum of 3 years of related accounting experience, including account reconciliation and analysis.
• Strong knowledge of automated financial systems and accounting procedures.
• Familiarity with applicable laws, regulations, and compliance standards.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, word processing, and spreadsheet/database tools.
• Experience with general ledger, balance sheet reconciliation, and income statement preparation.
• Proven ability to manage priorities, meet deadlines, and maintain accuracy in work.
• Effective interpersonal skills to interface with diverse individuals and groups.
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field is required; advanced education or certifications preferred.
