Staff Accountant
Description We are looking for a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our team in Los Angeles, California. This is a Contract-to-permanent position within the non-profit sector, offering an exciting opportunity to manage financial operations with a focus on grant accounting. The ideal candidate will bring expertise in general accounting, grant management, and compliance reporting to ensure the organization meets its financial goals. Responsibilities: • Prepare and manage general ledger entries related to grants, ensuring accurate allocation and tracking of funds. • Monitor grant expenditures to maintain compliance with agreements, policies, and regulatory requirements. • Collaborate with program teams to develop and submit accurate financial reports for grants on time. • Assist in creating and overseeing grant budgets, addressing variances and funding discrepancies proactively. • Generate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports to meet audit and funder requirements. • Reconcile accounts tied to grant activities, providing variance analyses to internal stakeholders. • Support internal and external audits by maintaining organized, compliant financial documentation. • Act as a liaison between finance teams, program staff, and grantors to ensure consistency in grant-related operations. • Participate in month-end and year-end closing processes, including account reconciliation and journal entry preparation. • Provide training or guidance to team members on grant financial processes when needed. Requirements • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field. • At least 2 years of experience in general accounting, with a preference for expertise in grants management. • Proficiency in financial software systems and advanced Excel skills. • Strong understanding of compliance reporting and financial reporting standards. • Exceptional attention to detail and the ability to meet deadlines. • Excellent communication skills for effective collaboration with internal teams and external stakeholders. • Certification such as CPA or a related credential is a plus but not required.
