Staff Accountant
Description We are looking for a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our team on a long-term contract basis in Goleta, California. This role involves managing payroll, accounts payable, and financial reporting processes to ensure accuracy and compliance. The ideal candidate will bring expertise in accounting systems and practices, along with a commitment to maintaining timely and efficient operations. Responsibilities: • Process bi-weekly payroll, including reviewing timecards, making manual adjustments, and generating payroll-related reports. • Manage payroll cycle documentation by creating folders, downloading reports, and uploading necessary files for CalPERS, union dues, and deferred compensation. • Prepare and submit invoices for CalPERS, 457 B plans, and union dues, ensuring accurate claims and payouts. • Generate Excel-based payroll spreadsheets to create journal entries and support financial reconciliation. • Submit CalPERS payroll reports within seven days of payroll closing to maintain compliance. • Handle monthly health and retirement billing for CalPERS, ensuring proper alignment with program codes and funding sources. • Address accounts payable tasks, including processing outstanding invoices and maintaining up-to-date records. • Perform bank reconciliations and manage general ledger entries to ensure accurate financial reporting. • Assist with month-end closing activities, including journal entries and financial statement preparation. • Maintain proficiency in accounting software such as NetSuite, Oracle, QuickBooks, and SAP. Requirements • Minimum of 2 years of experience in accounting or related roles. • Proficiency in accounts payable and accounts receivable processes. • Strong understanding of payroll management and journal entry preparation. • Experience with financial reconciliation, including bank reconciliations and general ledger maintenance. • Expertise in accounting software such as NetSuite, Oracle, QuickBooks, and SAP. • Familiarity with month-end closing procedures and financial reporting. • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines effectively.
