Staff Accountant
Description We are looking for a detail-oriented Staff Accountant for our property management client in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. In this role, you will be responsible for preparing accurate financial statements, maintaining reconciliations, and providing financial support to property managers and owners. This position offers an excellent opportunity to grow your expertise in accounting within the property management industry. Responsibilities: • Prepare monthly financial statements for assigned properties with accuracy and timeliness. • Follow a detailed accounting checklist to ensure all property-specific requirements are completed each month. • Conduct bank reconciliations and maintain supporting workpapers for financial statement balances. • Post monthly gross potential rent entries and handle journal entries with proper documentation. • Address outstanding issues such as deposit discrepancies or owner-provided adjustments promptly. • Collaborate with Regional Property Managers to answer accounting-related inquiries and communicate with property owners as necessary. • Review and verify data entries by site managers, including charges, receipts, and vendor invoices, for accuracy. • Oversee the processing of payables related to owner distributions, management fees, and recurring expenses like mortgages and property taxes. • Assist with month-end preparation by finalizing financial statements, resolving review notes, and conducting research as needed. • Protect sensitive company information and contribute to organizational goals by meeting all deadlines and improving processes. Requirements • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or business with a focus on accounting from an accredited institution. • Knowledge of accounts receivable, accounts payable, cash management, and bank reconciliation processes. • Experience preparing financial reports and supporting year-end audits or tax preparation. • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills. • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word, with experience in property management software being a plus. • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to work collaboratively. • Dependable and flexible with a commitment to meeting deadlines, especially during critical periods. • Ability to handle confidential information with the utmost professionalism.
