Staff Accountant
Description We are looking for a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our team in Syracuse, New York. This is a Contract-to-permanent position within the financial services industry, offering an excellent opportunity to grow your accounting skills while contributing to the success of our organization. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accounts payable, general ledger management, and account reconciliations, along with a commitment to maintaining accurate financial records and supporting the accounting team. Responsibilities: • Process accounts payable, including weekly check runs, approval verification, and maintaining organized vendor documentation. • Post journal entries to the general ledger for accounts receivable, payments, and other financial activities. • Reconcile assigned bank and general ledger accounts, ensuring documentation for reconciling items is accurate and complete. • Load assets into the system asset register and manage prepaid items within the tracking system as needed. • Administer corporate credit cards by collecting receipts, preparing payment documentation, and posting related journal entries. • Monitor and address returned member Bill Pay items and follow up on outstanding checks in compliance with company policies. • Prepare and post journal entries for mortgage closings, ensuring all associated documentation is consolidated. • Update and maintain written procedures for assigned tasks and responsibilities to support efficient workflows. • Assist with unclaimed funds processes, including mailing letters to members with dormant accounts. • Collaborate with the accounting team and contribute to the continuous improvement of internal accounting procedures. Requirements • Proven experience in accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger management. • Proficiency with accounting software such as NetSuite, Oracle, QuickBooks, or SAP. • Strong skills in bank reconciliations and preparing journal entries. • Familiarity with month-end close processes and financial reporting. • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to maintain accurate and detailed records. • Strong communication skills for effective collaboration within the accounting team. • Ability to adapt to new systems and develop a working knowledge of internal data processing and reporting tools. • A solid understanding of accounting principles and best practices.
