Description We are looking for a dedicated Staff Accountant to join our team in Syracuse, New York. This is a Contract-to-Permanent position within the wholesale distribution industry, offering an excellent opportunity to contribute to financial and operational processes. The ideal candidate will handle a variety of accounting functions, ensuring accuracy and efficiency in day-to-day operations. Responsibilities: • Oversee accounts receivable functions while providing support for Controller responsibilities. • Manage weekly payroll processes for approximately 33 employees, coordinating with a third-party provider. • Administer contracts related to food distribution, ensuring compliance and accurate documentation. • Perform collection activities and assist in establishing new customer accounts. • Execute month-end closing procedures, including reconciliations and reporting. • Work closely with warehouse operations and adapt to a dynamic environment. • Utilize Sage software and web-based sales platforms to maintain financial records and transactions. • Prepare and review journal entries and maintain the general ledger. • Ensure compliance with corporate tax regulations, including sales tax and corporate tax returns. Requirements • Proven experience in accounting, preferably within the wholesale distribution sector. • Familiarity with Sage software and web-based sales programs is highly desirable. • Strong knowledge of corporate tax, sales tax, and tax return preparation. • Proficiency in journal entries and general ledger maintenance. • Ability to manage payroll processes effectively, including coordination with third-party services. • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and analytical skills. • Comfortable working in proximity to warehouse operations. • Accounting degree preferred but not required.
