Robert Half is currently sourcing an experienced and detail-oriented Degreed Staff Accountant for a contract-to-hire opportunity with one of our esteemed clients in Downtown Houston. The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in general ledger (GL) reconciliations, intercompany accounting, and a proven ability to thrive in a fast-paced and collaborative environment. Key Responsibilities
General Ledger Reconciliations:
+ Perform detailed monthly reconciliations to ensure the integrity and accuracy of the general ledger.
+ Review and resolve discrepancies in GL accounts, working cross-functionally with other departments to address data inconsistencies.
Intercompany Accounting:
+ Handle the preparation, recording, and reconciliation of intercompany entries and eliminations with precision to maintain financial accuracy.
+ Work closely with global subsidiaries and internal teams to address intercompany transactions and ensure compliance with corporate standards.
Variance Analysis:
+ Perform thorough variance analysis by comparing actual results to budgeted figures. Provide well-researched explanations for variances, helping management understand financial outcomes.
+ Identify and document key drivers impacting performance to support strategic planning.
Month-End Close:
+ Actively participate in the month-end closing process, including preparing journal entries, reconciling accounts, and completing account analysis.
+ Ensure that all closing activities are completed accurately and within designated timelines.
Reporting and Documentation:
+ Generate and maintain ad hoc reports to support the organization's financial planning, operational analysis, and decision-making initiatives.
+ Assist in developing financial schedules and contribute to improving reporting processes for greater efficiency.
Auditing and Compliance:
+ Serve as a key point of contact during internal and external audits, providing support and necessary documentation to ensure a smooth audit process.
+ Uphold company policies and procedures regarding financial and regulatory compliance.
Special Projects and Financial Analysis:
+ Support special projects related to process improvement, system implementation, and other organizational priorities as needed.
+ Perform additional ad hoc financial analysis as requested, providing insight that fosters informed decision-making across departments.
Requirements
Preferred Skills and Qualifications
+ Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field (required).
+ A minimum of 3 years of experience in accounting roles, including exposure to general ledger reconciliations, intercompany transactions, and financial analysis.
+ Strong proficiency in accounting software systems (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP, Oracle, or NetSuite) and advanced Microsoft Excel skills (e.g., pivot tables, VLOOKUP, and financial modeling).
+ Solid grasp of GAAP principles and industry-standard accounting practices.
+ Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills, with acute attention to detail.
+ Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex financial concepts to both finance and non-finance stakeholders.
+ Ability to thrive under pressure, meet deadlines, and adapt to a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
+ Experience with audit support processes and creating documentation for compliance purposes is a plus.
+ CPA certification or candidacy is preferred but not required.
