Staff Accountant
Description We are looking for a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our healthcare-focused team in Kalamazoo, Michigan. In this role, you will oversee key financial processes, maintain accurate records, and contribute to the organization's compliance with accounting standards and regulations. This position offers a dynamic environment where attention to detail and teamwork are essential to success. Responsibilities: • Maintain accuracy in the general ledger and ensure proper balance sheet account reconciliation. • Prepare and post journal entries for monthly business activities, ensuring all entries are supported by appropriate documentation. • Process incoming payments through various methods, including checks, credit cards, and organizational platforms. • Assist with daily cash management and forecasting activities to optimize financial operations. • Manage the organization's commercial card program, including card issuance, limit adjustments, and terminations. • Record and reconcile transactions using specialized software, such as Representative Payee Manager. • Provide backup support for payroll, accounts receivable, and accounts payable functions as needed. • Conduct internal audits of departmental processes and procedures to ensure compliance and efficiency. • Uphold organizational values of diversity, inclusiveness, and anti-racism, contributing to the commitment of being an anti-racist organization. • Safeguard the confidentiality of sensitive information, data, and reports within the Finance Department. Requirements • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a closely related field. • Minimum of 2 years of experience working with financial software. • Strong knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). • Ability to interpret and apply grant requirements, regulations, and contractual financial procedures. • Proficiency in modern accounting practices, including spreadsheet programs and accounting software. • Excellent communication skills to effectively handle inquiries and complaints at all levels. • Capability to work independently with minimal supervision while collaborating effectively in a team environment. • U.S. work authorization and all candidates required to undergo relevant screenings in accordance with Michigan law.
