Description We are looking for a skilled Staff Accountant to join our team in Norfolk, Virginia. This Contract-to-Permanent position is an excellent opportunity to contribute to the financial operations of a government entity. The ideal candidate will bring expertise in accounting practices and a commitment to accuracy and efficiency. Responsibilities: • Prepare and analyze financial reports to ensure accuracy and compliance with regulations. • Oversee general ledger activities, including entries and maintenance. • Conduct account reconciliations to identify discrepancies and ensure proper balances. • Manage trial balance reviews and ensure month-end close processes are completed on time. • Handle accruals and other journal entries as needed. • Utilize Microsoft Excel for data analysis and reporting tasks. • Collaborate with team members to streamline accounting processes and improve efficiency. • Ensure adherence to municipal accounting standards and guidelines. • Provide support during audits and assist with documentation preparation. Requirements • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field. • Minimum of 3 years of experience in accounting roles, demonstrating attention to detail. • Proficiency in managing general ledger and financial reporting. • Strong knowledge of account reconciliation processes. • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel, including formulas and data analysis. • Familiarity with month-end close procedures and accrual accounting. • Excellent attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines. • Strong communication and organizational skills.
