Staff Accountant
Description We are looking for a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our team in Bakersfield, California. This position offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to the financial operations of a nonprofit organization, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting standards. The ideal candidate will excel in managing day-to-day accounting tasks and collaborating with various departments. Responsibilities: • Manage accounts receivable by tracking incoming funds, applying payments accurately, and reconciling records to ensure timely collection. • Oversee accounts payable processes, including entering bills, reviewing expenses, and ensuring proper coding in alignment with project and grant requirements. • Prepare and record deposits while conducting monthly bank reconciliations to identify and resolve discrepancies. • Import payroll data into accounting systems, ensuring proper allocation to departments, while maintaining compliance with payroll documentation standards. • Monitor restricted and unrestricted funding to ensure adherence to grant agreements and assist in preparing periodic reports. • Maintain monthly reconciliation schedules and support the preparation of accurate financial statements. • Collaborate with the Finance Director to produce reports for funders, the Board of Directors, and senior leadership. • Assist with annual audits by preparing necessary documentation and responding to auditor inquiries. • Reconcile credit card transactions and manage vendor records to ensure compliance with organizational policies. Requirements • Associate’s degree in Accounting or Finance is required; a Bachelor’s degree is strongly preferred. • Proficiency in QuickBooks Online and familiarity with platforms such as Bill.com and Ramp. • Strong understanding of nonprofit fund accounting principles and grant compliance requirements. • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including the ability to work with pivot tables and complex formulas. • Experience with government and foundation grants, including compliance and reporting. • Spanish language proficiency is a plus but not required.
