Staff Accountant 16 Months Contract

OVERVIEW - THIS IS A 16 MONTHS CONTRACT POSITION This candidate will possess an in-depth understanding of accounting principles and internal controls, assist in the coordination of the month-end and year-end close, ensure timely and accurate preparation of monthly financial statements and cost reports, and utilize analytical skills to identify and report on variances. The Company is embarking on a reporting process that will automate the delivery of financial reports. Accordingly, it is important that the incumbent be open to change and to the use of IT resources to streamline work. As this change is implemented, the Finance Department role is expected to become more analytical and less transactional in nature. The candidate must be proactive, ambitious and keen to develop a broad understanding of the business. Other Duties and Responsibilities: + Support and assist in the coordination of the monthly close process including quarterly and year-end procedures + Prepare monthly journal entries and monthly account reconciliations + Assist with the preparation of the monthly financial reporting package and annual audited financial statements + Analyze monthly cost and variance reports and prepare financial commentaries on various operating areas + Manage several B/S accounts including prepaid expenses, miscellaneous receivables, and accruals + Payroll accounting and related reconciliations + Assist with financial audits and tax requests + Prepare various government reports and surveys + Leverage working relationships with other business segments to assist with the monthly consolidation reporting + Assist with the development and improvement of IT systems (Anaplan, SAC, SAP, Copilot) + Prepare and design ad hoc reports and analyses, as required + Assist in the compilation and preparation of department budgets and the annual operating plan + Document and update new and existing processes and controls + Participate in projects, group initiatives, implementations, and system upgrades + Identify opportunities for efficiencies and process improvement initiatives + Ensure compliance with company policies and internal controls QUALIFICATIONS: Education Requirements: + Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting + Active CPA License required; additional certifications are a plus + 2-3 years of accounting experience + Proven accounting experience and thorough knowledge of accounting principles, procedures, and internal controls + Extensive ERP experience, SAP preferred + Experience in the manufacturing industry preferred Desired Skills + Advanced Excel skills and other Microsoft Applications (Outlook, PowerPoint, excel, copilot and others) + Strong analytical, logic and problem-solving skills with the ability to use sound judgement + A self-starter / self-motivated who is eager to learn, work independently with minimal daily direction from manager + Ability to work collaboratively across departments with a focus on team work and continuous improvement + Ability to be respectful, approachable and team-oriented while building strong working relationships + Strong interpersonal skills + Ability to handle multiple priorities and deliver on deadlines, with attention to detail + Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with ability to interpret/communicate results + Highly organized, detail-oriented with ability to multitask and prioritize activities LOCATION OF ROLE + Toronto, ON + Hybrid structure with minimum 3 days per week in office For more than 100 years, our employees have taken pride in “Making Life a Little Sweeter” by providing our customers and consumers with quality service and sugar products.
