Your New Role…
The Staff Accountant, HBO Content will be a member of the Streaming Accounting Controllership team based in Mexico City, Mexico. The Accounting Controllership Team is responsible for monthly and quarterly US GAAP reporting, review of account reconciliations and support for global financial reporting processes. Everyday responsibilities include ensuring compliance during audits, as well as with SEC and SOX guidelines. The Team closely collaborates with other relevant stakeholders, including Business Affairs, Finance, Legal, Operations, Tax, as well as external service providers. The Staff Accountant, HBO Content is essential in supporting the Streaming Segment Content Accounting for HBO. This individual will be responsible for month-end and quarterly activities related to the full content lifecycle, including talent and production costs. This role is critical to ensuring completeness and accuracy of financial records and ensuring compliance with US GAAP and company policies.

Your Role Accountabilities…

Prepare journal entries and account reconciliations for in-house original productions, third-party and intercompany licensed content assets, accruals, prepayments, and amortizationAssist in preparation of quarterly and annual SEC schedules, including content rights, commitments and future amortizationPartner with content finance to ensure the accurate and timely premiere of titles and action adjustments to content asset and liability balances, when neededProvide support for audit requests, both internal and externalMaintain compliance with the SOX control framework and partner with Financial Compliance regularly to aid in the evaluation of our control environmentUtilize Oracle and Hyperion to ensure accurate reporting of streaming content and perform account analysisManage intercompany activity and communication between HBO and other business units across the company, researching and resolving variances as they ariseSupport business and department initiatives and prepare ad hoc analyses as neededComplete all work in a timely and accurate manner within established deadlines

Qualifications & Experience…

BS/BA in Accounting from an accredited college or universityKnowledge of US GAAPUnderstanding of Sarbanes-Oxley and experience with SOX controlsStrong understanding of financial systems with ability to learn and master new system toolsAttention to detail, accuracy, and strong organizational skillsStrong analytical and critical thinking skillsCapacity to effectively manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment, meeting deadlines while balancing competing deliverablesStrong Excel skillsExcellent English written and verbal communication skillsMust be able to work collaboratively with cross-functional team members at all levelsWillingness to learn and accept new or unfamiliar tasks

Preferences…
Big 4 accounting firm experience or experience at a publicly traded company

Film and media / entertainment accounting experienceStrong business acumen working in a multinational companyOracle or SAP S/4 HANA knowledge is a plusExperience in automating manual processesActive CPA license or local equivalent, or a path towards license attainment
